I'm looking for a good 48-bit scanner in the sub $200 range. Sharpness and color accuracy are important (obvious, I assume), but there are so many out there, I can't really decide. I need to scan in photos so that they can be integrated into InDesign 2.0 and Quark 4.1 files and ultimately printed in a magazine. I've heard that some scanners advertise a 48-bit scan, but use digital interpolation, etc to get that resolution. What kinds of problems can that cause?
I've read that AGFA and UMAX have great quality, but that Epson and HP aren't as great. What about Microtek? Anything wrong with $99 or $150 scanners? Thanks in advance!
