A few weeks ago a combination of my stupidity and my hard drive dying left me loosing all of my fonts. Most of them don’t matter, I can get them back, or their not that important.

However there is one, that is very important and I really would like to get it back.

All I have is this gif I made of it(when I used to have it): http://bordas.dhs.org/advena/advena.gif

If anyone recognizes that font and has it, or knows where I can get it, PLEASE PLEASE tell me!!

thanks.
mb

ps. i also used the font in a flash movie, so the font is in the flash file but there is no way to get out, is there?

Here's what I did, I downloaded your GIF and placed it into QuarkXPress in a picture box. I then openned-up a few fonts I suspected it should be and attempted to size match them-up to yours by using your image as a template (sorta like "tracing" your GIF but with a font instead).

Now keep in mind the size I'm giving you is the exact size as matched-up to your GIF in QuarkXPress.

It's 36 pt Helvetica Neueu Black Extended and It's tracked out to 15%.

Sometimes the Sans Serif fonts can be a tad confusing like geneva and ariel and helvetica, plus there's several variations of helvetica alone. I have 12 different variations of helvetica alone.

I had a feeling it was some sort of altered font. There are so many out there that you really connot tell the difference anymore, and that's probably because it is a slight variation of a font that already exists.

thanks to everyone, i found my font :-)

it seems that the font i was using has a lot of different names, the one i had was called Swiss 721 Black Extended but its also called, Nimbus Sans Black, Helvetica 93 Black Extended, and more.

so both of you are right about the names.
I wonder how it got so many names?

thanks again, im so glad to have my font back!

The irony with fonts is that you could have two families which are named completely different but appear to be exactly the same. Then you notice that something like the lower case letter " i " in one font is just slightly different from the other font, or the decender on the lower case letter " g " is just slightly different from one to the other.

I think there's some actual "legal" stipulation that states that no two fonts can be "exactly" the same, so what people have done is toss in very subtle differences.

The only real way to see if Swiss 721 Black Extended, Nimbus Sans Black, Helvetica 93 Black Extended, and Helvetica Neueu Black Extended are all exactly the same is to look at a font chart for each one and compare each letter to each letter from the other.

Your logo is Advena and those letters are likely very common in appearance between many different sans-serif fonts. I even thought it might have been Ariel Black or some form of Futura.
