I use os x.
I have colorsync set to colormatch rgb. output to default printer. I use an epson 1270. I am not sure exactly what i'm doing.
In os 9 and photoshop, i would use colormatch rgb ( adobe rgb would import scanned and digicam pics as oversaturated).
In photoshop 6 and os9 I would print using "use printer color management" , colorsync on and the prints would match onscreen images very closely. If I checked a softproof of for instance epson matte paper, it would darken the image and shift it towards blue. This would not match my printout on matte paper.
In osX and photoshop 7, a onscreen soft proof of epson matte paper would again darken and blue shift the image. Printing using matte paper, postscript color management, colorsync on, would match the onscreen soft proof; ie. the hard copy looked bluer and darker than the oncscreen image; it matched the onscreen proof exactly. This means I have to adjust my image while checking the proof onscreen. I have to adjust curves for example to make the onscreen proof match my desired printout.
If however when printing, I don't use colorsync, I select photorealistic color adjustment; and make no adjustments to the sliders, the printout matches onscreen image, not the onscreen proof.
Have I described this adequately. Do I have any Idea what I am doing? Am I totally messed up?
I just want to know the proper and easiest method in photoshop to get my onscreen image to match the print.
I have calibrated my monitor, but cannot afford expensive hardware calibration.
