Isn't it just Streamline, but not. Maybe a nice alternative...

That's the point. Streamline hasn't been updated in YEARS! Any alternatives and new possible softwares to build on the functionality and usefulness is GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Many people have argued that streamline still works, it does its job, and why update something that works as needed. I would tell them to look at QuarkXPress and then look at InDesign. Or perhaps a better example for most graphics oriented people, what if Adobe decided "you know, photoshop pretty much does what anyone needs it to do in version 3.01"

Where would we be today? I'd LOVE for Adobe to kick Streamline into the next century, it is seriously behind any other product and I've heard the demand for updates from so many people.

I'll be checking out this new offering and hopefully it will live up the what streamline is and then surpass it. I'd love to hear other's thoughts on how Silhoutte works for them.

I really don't understand why Streamline hasn't just been included in Photoshop. Scan the image convert to paths export paths to Illustrator. I only demoed Streamline once and wasn't extremely impressed to be honest, but it sure beats tracing, even if it does need some cleaning-up.

But yeah, this Silhouette thing sounds like Streamline to me, except there is no Streamline for OSX.

once illustrator and freehand started including a rudimentary "trace" tool, I stopped bothering with streamline at all. Going back and forth was cumbersome and annoying, and I never really needed to trace complex paths all that much.

Actually, I use the trace tool all of the time. It's great for flash, and also for print work... With logos, it's also very important. They draw something on a sheet and say "something like this" and I import it using Streamline... works very well most of the time...
