I hate threads like this, but I really need some feedback. My website has been pretty dull of late and have given the Interface a bit of an overhaul - whatdya think?
The Headfactory
I'm kinda losing my way in the pit of HTML and Photoshop and stuff, and really need something that's gonna last for a while - whilst remainig as clean and simple as possible. The new site will have sidebars on the side as well to reduce the widescreen effect plus a more hieriachial menu. The previous design is linked on the home page.
If anyone knows how to do CSS as well I'd be most appreciative, as I would love to be able to get the control back over my font sizes - It's gotta be Geneva 9 point as that's the best tradeoff I can make without going Flash - which doesn't suit the concept of the site. Also a bit of help in the old PHP department would be cool. I just can't get my head round some of the manuals. SO - I'm a dumbass!
Cheers for your feedback in advance.

It's okay, I've just had proper spurt of inspiration. The quick sketch I've done is giving me goosebumps. I should have an entirely new look by the end of the weekend. Still wouldn't mind a bit of help with CSS tho.
I think I just realised I had been basically rehashing the old website design over and over. Nothing was new or innovative, and at last i have my head set on something a lot better. I mean a lot.
I'll keep ya posted. Ta.

The new basic design is now up for everyones perusal from the address as before. It is kickass in my opinion.
Still needs a couple of tweaks, but still on making the timescale. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Ta.

Nick no like typeface so much. and a small personal gripe against type masking off an image, that also annoys me. I like the tabs, and the fact that the bottom line of said boxes isn't filled in, thats a nice touch. Is the menu font optima, I think? (could be blurry courier) looks a little off against the 'maze' esque typeface youve chosen. the logo along the top looks pretty interesting but again, personal gripe against type masking.
OK, I realize all of the above is pretty much all opinion and personal grip-ful and pretty much unconstructive, uhm. my bad. What is the text box that is about 50-60% grey between the menubar and headline area for? Layout wise it looks a little slashcode-esque but that is a very effective layout for news/informational sites. (infact, I suggested a look like this to sprint for their upcoming re-design like two days ago ) PERSONALLY (again) I like the old version much better. The colors are much more subtle and pleasing, the type works alot better and its cleaner and a much fresher approach than the techie look. I think the current incarnation, with a little bit of tweaking (e.g. moving type a few pixels to the left one pixel down, etc) could be better than the new version completely started from scratch. Tis better (and easier) to go with the tried and true and perfect it rather than an all new all different look that you'll be bugfixing and perfecting for even longer. Oh and in your current incarnation none of your mousedown status graphics are showing up for the tabs along the top.

Try the rollovers now (if it still don't work ) - you should see what the mid grey box does now.
The menu font is just plain old Monaco 9 point.
I take your point about he image/text masking, but again, it is all within personal preference, and the main title is not meant to be particularly legible, just as a design piece - I'm pretty much retiring the HeadHelmet logo as seen on the old site to just the odd outing.
The funny font in the section titles is called Pocono, and I have no idea where I got it.
The idea I've had is to make the site appear less like a portal/news site and more like an actual corporate experience. The design before I was not satisfied with as it was fairly conservative and neither here nor there, not exactly reflecting the idea of design that I want to evoke.
Having looked at the main title over and over, it is true that it may not be the most effective title ever and will endeavour to make it more prominent, as that is going to be my new identifier and logo. That's me just being stubborn as usual but the overall design I believe is much more effective in conveying the headfactory experience to people than the old one ever did even if it requires a couple of tweaks.
I may change the menu font to Geneva, as the dynamic content will be sans serif anyway, and it may add a spot more continuity to the whole thing.
Thanks for the feedback. Appreciated.
