Hi,

I've got a long list of applications now that takes time to scroll through when I pull up the applications folder from the dock. I was thinking of reorganising the applications folder by creating sub-folders and moving the applications into them. would this cause a problem with dock shortcuts etc.

Would it be better to create a new folder containing subfolders and use aliases to the original programs that remain in a big list in the original applications folder.

Thanks,

J.

I used to do option number 2. I had a folder called Launcher and within that folder placed alias of my Applications in subfolders within the Launcher folder. However hands down the fastest way to launch applications is Launchbar. Command+space, type 2-3letters, then press enter and presto! your app is launched

moving your actual apps around won't interfere with the Dock, but it will break them if Software Update tries to update any of them

Thanks for the replies. I've downloaded launchbar, and I'm trying it out. Takes some getting used to.

Meantime I'll set up a folder of aliases.

Many thanks,

J.

The cool thing about Launchbar is that it very customizable. Personally I have it scan only my applications folder and then add frequently accessed documents later. It also 'learns' from your habits.
