hey all,

my powerbook is acting very strangely...

i tried doing some theme stuff the other day using themechanger and aquafix, and when i shut her down and turned it on again, the computer couldn't find my system folder. strangely, when i used the osx boot cd, it could find my drive w/disk utility, but it still wouldn't boot from it. so i just said screw it and did an archive + install.

that seemed to work ok, i figured i'd just have to fix a few things the way i prefer them and that would be that. but now i can't connect to the internet whatsover, wired or wireless. also, my battery indicator has dissapeared...wheni go to sys pref to turn it on, it still won't show up, and for some reason it says my battery level is zero percent even though the computer is on. i can't figure out what this is all about..i've rebooted a few times and now i'm veryfying and repairing disk permissions. if i can't get this working after that should i just dump everything onto my FW HD and do a clean install? :/ thanks in advance for any help you can give.

I think your Harddrive's gone bad. Try backing up your data to a CD and reformatting your drive and resinstalling.

No, that would not cause those problems. It sounds like a bad install to me.

One way of getting a hard disk to boot into OS X when all else has failed is to boot off an OS 9 cd and run System Disk (version 2.6.2) to select the OS X startup disk. Note this does need to be system disk, not startup disk, and older versions don't work as well.

if you have the means to backup your files, go for a format-install. wipe that sucker clean. it's times like these I always download OS X updates to my hard drive and keep them backed up--quick format-installs followed by immediate, on-hand updates.
