When I go to System Preferences->Sharing and turn on Windows file sharing, it checks itself 'on' in the Sharing pane, but I don't see any smbd/nmbd processes starting. What could be the problem and how could I resolve it?

(This is on 10.3.2, but I had this problem in 10.3.1, too.)

I guess that is worse than the bug where when you turn it off, it keeps sharing until you restart.
The process I see start is xinetd and nmbd. Do you have SMB on in Directory Access, although I don't think it is required?
Actually they must have fixed the turn off bug in 10.3.2, cause it works now.

I do have SMB turned on in Directory Access with the workgroup setting 'WORKGROUP.'
