Why has Java 1.4.1 popped up in Software Update again today?

I installed it under 10.2 and them 10.3 now here it is again.

Do we need to install it?

It's popped up on both my iMac FP and 12 inch PowerBook just as it did last time.

I also remember that it not appear on everyone's Mac right away, but it did in the end.

It's the 3rd time now that I have istalled it. I do know that it had to be reinstalled last time, is this due to the 10.3.2 update?

There is an Apple KB on it that I read a few days back. It stated that after doing an update install of 10.3 you will require a reinstall of Java.
If you did an erase and install or archive and install then you will not need to reinstall Java.

I did an update install, so that explains it.

Thanks

I got the Java 1.4.1 update also after I updated to 10.3.2 from 10.3.1. Thought it was strange but ran with it. Then downloaded and ran the Java 3d update package and all is well. Checked permissions at each stage with no corrections required. No problems here. Maybe it needs no explanation, it just works. After all it's Apple.

I got the Java 1.4.1 update listed in SU (again) while updating my mother's TiBook. I do not see it listed on my iBook, however. I'm presently on vacation, so I can't check my G5 to see if it's showing up there or not.

Apple's explanation:

For those users affected by the upgrade problem described in Tech Note #2099 ( http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2002/tn2099.html ) we previously offered a Java Update 1.4.1 for Panther. With that earlier update, some of the affected people were incompletely upgraded. We have re-released the Java Update 1.4.1 to correctly upgrade all affected users. If you see the upgrade in Software Update, you should install Java Update 1.4.1 (even if you had previously installed it) to ensure your system has a complete Java installation. This update supercedes Tech Note #2099.

If it's showing up 3 times after it's been installed just make the update inactive in software update.
