I've developed a small corruption in the Finder.
All is normal except for the right side of the menue bar where my modem, sound, date and
accounts menue items freeze. Several restarts failed to clear it. I logged into another account and everything was normal. I logged back to my account and the freeze had cleared. I've tried trashing the finder.plist in users but that didn't help. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. The right side of the menue bar shows Now Contact and Up to Date, optical drives, character palette, modem, sound, time and accounts in that order. I'm on an Dual 1.25 FW800 and running 10.3.1

Sounds like it is something in your startup items possibly? Try removing items one by one and see if the problem goes away.

I had a similar problem with my new iBook. Similar in the fact that the only thing that froze up was the right side of my menu bar.

My problem was that the iBook was looking for a server from work on my home network. I tried "unmounting" the drives to no avail. The odd thing was the only part of my machine that was having trouble was the menu bar. My Finder ran fine.

My problem appears to be different from this one, as a simple "Relaunch Finder" from the Force Quit menu worked fine.

It may be an entirely different problem, but you might look to see if your machine is not finding a device, drive or computer that it is supposed to find on startup.

I'd be interested to find out why this part of the menu bar is more susceptible to problems than anything else.

Just for grins, try deleting com.apple.systemuiserver.plist, which sesides in your 'username'/library/preferences folder, then re-starting.

I had the same freeze happening a while back on my work box, and deleting that then killing the systemuiserver process in the terminal cleared it up.

Deleted the com.apple.systemuiserver.plist file and restarted. It removed my date and time and now up to date contact buttons. Put the time back up, don't know about up' to date buttons. Menue works fine but i'm not sure if it's a fix because the bug came and went before. Keep ya'll posted.
