Software Update tells me to download & install QT 6.5 (I have 6.4 installed in my Panther 12" PB) and when I tried to install, it asks for Name, Registration no. I don't have any registration no as Quicktime was pre-installed with Panther and subsequently updated automatically to 6.4 through software update.
Also, when installing 6.5, the pop-up said that there is no need to enter Registration number if not available, just click Continue. Cicking on Continue immediately brought up the same pop-up asking me to fill the Reg no. Urggg... what should I do? I thought the Player is a free upgrade?

It is a free upgrade. Im not on my mac, and havent downloaded the update (its at my house in Del Mar, by school), but I think the serial number and name apply to QT Pro. Just press ok without typing anything in and it should bypass it.
Merry Christmas!

You need to fill in your name, but you can leave the Organization field blank.
The Registration number is only if you upgrade to Quicktime Pro, so you can leave that blank to.

I know that. So, I just entered my name and click on continue. A popup appeared with the following message:
"The registration information you have entered is not valid. Please check that 'Registered To' and 'Registration Number' are entered excatly as shown on your registration information."
I can't get beyond this point. Anyway, i don't think this is an important upgrade and I can do without it. i am just curious why it is forcing me to enter the registration no in order to install this free upgrade, when it stated earlier that the registration number can be entered later under Quicktime preferences.

Don't fill out any information. Just hit the continue button, and the upgrade will install just fine. It is a bit confusing.

HI Macdizzy,
You have not been alone.... I've been having the same problem now for about three weeks - I run an iMac 15" with 10.2.6 and a PB 15" with 'Panther'. I also have been scratching my *** trying to figure out the registration number - couldn't find it anywhere ..! I'd just about given up - so today, on the off chance, I logged onto MacNN Forum and ... bingo! I read about you having the same 'grief' - and the ever so simple fix as given by that very nice veteran member - mcsjgs - what a good guy!!
So for what its worth I'd also like to say to him "Thanks a million friend!!"
This is what this forum is all about - helping people in distress and being nice to one another .....
Happy New Year to you all - where ever you are....!!
