Why does Illustrator 10 take SOOOOO long to open a file with placed photos? I'm running Panther on a dual 1.0 Gig MDD windtunnel with 1.25 Gb RAM. (and a beautiful 20" studio display, by the way - just got it, had to mention it...) The pictures that are placed are only a total of about 1.5 Mb in size. It must take 4 minutes for the placed files to appear and for me to be able to get to work.

Any tips to speed this up? It's always behaved this way, I only just recently thought to ask the experts here at MacNN.
