Thanks.

I just tried some memorex DVD-RW the other day and my system would not burnt to them (it did not reject them but returned hardware and medium errors). did some reading and seems many mac users have trouble with memorex.
I went out and got some TDK DVD-RW discs and they've been working great.
For mac, the conesus seems to be that media that is likely to work are:
• Apple media (though I highly doubt they make their own media, it would be interesting to know what brand they really are)
• Verbatim
• Maxell
• TDK
• Taiyo Yuden (spelling may be incorrect)
• Sony
This is just a list off the top of my head of what I can remember from all the articles and comments I read on media that works best with Mac.

Also, you need to make sure your Mac can write to DVD-RWs. Many Macs will only write DVD-Rs.

Also, the speed could be a factor. From what I've read, the Superdrive will burn to DVD-RW at half the normal DVD-R speed (so for a PowerBook that burns DVD-Rs at 2X, it will burn DVD-RWs at 1x). Did you try burning at only 1x?
And as for madmacgames' post, I agree with that list. Also - an AppleCare technician told me that the Apple media is made by Verbatim...

I had the same problem with Memorex DVD-RWs. I exchanged them for Sony, which worked fine. I have also used Apple and Imation disks with no problems.
I recently tried to erase an old backup set I had on CD-RWs. Several of the disks wouldn't erase or couldn't be written to after erasure, so I put them in a separate pile. When I looked at the bad pile later, every one of the disks were Memorex. There were no Memorex disks in the good pile.
I now avoid Memorex disks of all types.

i HATE memorex discs, from their cd-r that i first tried in 1999 to dvd-r media this year, they've always been crap. We got my sister's wedding dvd from the video guy on memorex media and it wouldn't play on any of our 5 dvd players, luckily i was able to rip it and burn it on some better media i have.
go to www.dvdrhelp.com to find some good media, i use BeAll 4x DVD-R and they're great! very compatible, no coasters, etc etc. BeAll is the spun off division that was samsung chemicals.

Just to make it fair, I am way stoked on Memorex media. I don't know what it is, but I dig their CD-Rs.
Truthfully, though, I haven't yet had enough tests with their DVD-Rs and DVD-RWs to make any further judgement. I previously had problems with their DVD-Rs but that was a few months ago before Toast 6.0.3 and the buffer underrun protection for DVD writers. I successfully did burn a few Memorex DVD-Rs using Retrospect which has its own DVD burning specialness I'm sure, because Retrospect saw, configured, and burned several backups on Memorex media.
At this point, though, I'm not sure if the coasters I've made have been for media compatability reasons or due to other reasons, it's hard to experiement when blank DVD media come at ~ 2 - 3 bucks per pop.
