While installing 10.3.1 via Software Update, my Powerbook G4 hung during the optimization process (45% complete). I waited hours, no progress, so I force quit.

Now it takes forever to launch programs, and when copying files using Synchronize Pro I am getting "not found" errors

Any ideas?

Thanks

Download 10.3.1 on your desktop. Extract the .pkg file. Restart in "safe" mode (hold down shift key during restart). Reinstall 10.3.1 while in safe mode. It should complete.

Then install 10.3.2 the same way if you are going to upgrade to it. I've seen quite a few posts about updates not finishing for some reason. This will usually solve the problem. You may have some 3rd party extension conflict.

After reinstalling 10.3.1, restart normally and see if the problems go away.

Sounds like your prebinding information is corrupted. The way to fix this is to force it to be redone.

Download my app, Pacifist (link in my sig), launch it, and click the "Update Prebinding Information" button. Check the "Force all files to be prebound" check box, and click OK. After a while, when it finishes, see if things are any better.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist 2.5.2. Macworld - five mice!

If the problem should be with the prebinding, simply open the Terminal, (Applications/Utilities) and type or cut and paste:

sudo update_prebinding -root /

Press Return, enter your administrator password and press return again.
