I ordered and external 120GB hard drive. I am going to backup all my data to the HD, but I found there is a glitch with Panther and external HD's. Here are my questions:
1.) Do I need to format the external hard drive, and if so, how do I format it?
2.) How should I go about backing up my data to the external hard drive? Would you reccomend using a specific program or just dragging all my important files (music, pictures, documents...) onto the hard drive?
3.) In regard to the problem with Panther and the external HD, should I backup while still in Jaguar, do a clean install with Panther, unplug the HD while installing Panther, then plug in the external hard drive once everything is installed and hope for the best?
I will (hopefully) be installing Panther on a Powerbook G4.
Any suggestions or solutions are appreciated.

1. use disk utility to format the disk, if needed.
2. up to you.
3. download the 10.3.2 update and the newest firmware for your firewire case.

1. Disk Utility (in Utilities in Pather)
2. I use Silverware that came with my Lacie drive, does the job well haven't heard anything bad about it - it was also free.
3. I did an archive install with drive unplugged then plugged drive in when all logged into an updated (10.3.1) Panther, then applied the firmware update from Lacie. Havent had any problems but then again my drive is FW400..

"And Zapp Brannigan, your score qualifies you as assistant delivery boy, second class."
"Hmm. I guess I'll have to sleep my way to the top. Kif, wake me when I'm there."
