I have a computer (PC, actually, and a crappy one at that) that currently has a CRT monitor. I would like some way to connect a second monitor, a 17" LCD, that would display the same image that's on the CRT. I found a VGA splitter made by Belkin that would appear to work but a friend of mine thought it might not work since the monitors are not the same (different resolutions). Anyone ever try doing this?

I've run multiple monitors, at different resolutions, off of two cards, but never the same one with a splitter.

However, while not a splitter, I've run video out to a TV while a normal monitor was plugged into the VGA port on an ATI multimedia card before with no problems. The monitor, obviously, was at a higher res then the TV.

As long as both displays can use the same resolution and refresh rate, then yes, it'll work.

Maybe this is obvious, but you'll have to run each monitor at the same resolution at the same time.
