I have a Sony Ericsson T630 (White) unlocked with Cingular Wireless in Southern California. The phone works great and I like it's functionality but I am looking to combine some of my devices. I also have a Palm Tungsten C and a Canon 3 MP Digital Camera. I'd like an all in one type of phone. I really enjoy Sony Ericsson's phones and am not really looking to buy a Treo. My question is, do you think it's worth upgrading to the SE K700i or the SE S700i ? I'm looking at the prices and not really seeing what justifies a $500+ price tag on the S700i. If anyone has any of these phones, is it worth upgrading from the T630 and why? I'm starting to think that it might just be worth holding onto my T630 until the MP get around 3 or so and there is more organizer stuff built in.

I had a T68i, then moved to the T610, and now have a K700. It is so much better than the earlier models. The screen is great, the camera is decent, and it works great with the Mac. I also liked that incoming txts also showed the person's picture, unlike my earlier S/Es.

if you want to combine devices you shouldn't be looking at the k700 series. instead take a look at the p900.

Nope it sure as hell is NOT. I had the t68i which was great, the t616 was a nice upgrade and now I got the T637 which is a small tad better than the t616. The k700 only offers a prettier OS animations, better camera, radio (with the headset plugged in) a light and worse battery life. You can also do silly things like play small videos on it but you will never use that for anything other that to show off to your geeky friend.
I used one and it feels cheap and plasticy. Yes overall it is a good phone but not worth upgrading from the t6xx models.
Since you want more PDA like features you should really look at the SE910 which is an incredible phone and not big at all for what it can do.
The s700 seems like it will be a nice phone (if not a tad big) if you are mainly interested in phone features, plus it comes will all the features of the k700.
Overall it is an ok phone but way to many bugs (from online reports) and a worse battery. It is not worth $500 when you can get an impressive phone like the Motorola Razor for about $400.

The only thing I worry about the Razor with is that if I am driving I can't feel the keys or it will dial them. I use my thumb to feel the keyboard so I don't have to look at it.

Well I thought about the razor for a bit also but I just love my t637 too much.
Anyway, SE is coming out with at least 10 new phones this year including a replacement for the t6xx (the 700 was not the replacement). I would wait a couple months to see what SE has up their sleeve.

I'd wait and jump onto the 3G bandwagon instead.

I've been hearing about 3G since 2000. What exactly is 3G and when is it coming? Is the AT&T EDGE network considered 3G or is it some 2.5G or something?

Pff, don't hold your breath if you live in the US. At the best you will see it in 2006 and even than limited, expensive and not with many providers or towers that will support it.

iDriveX, 3G phones are basically videophones with high speed download connections (about 300kb, I think) and stuff like sports results clips, gps streetmaps and place finders.
It's started to take off here in the UK now, 3 has been around for over a year now and started off a bit too early if anything, the first 3 phones were bricks with a 1 day battery life. Vodafone and Orange have just launched their services with newer phones like Nokia 6630.

Sony Ericsson wil lsoon launch the S710a for the CIngular market. WAit for that.
it is an 850/1900 Mhz version of the S700.
YES the K700 and the S700 are awesome, but if you are on Cingular you'd be a fool to puchase either of these phones as they DO NOT work on Cingular's 850Mhz band. You'd only be picking up 1/2 the towers you'd get with a tri-band phone like the S710.
I own a K700i and it is awesome. I do use Cingular, only because i recently switched from T-Mobile and i'm awaiting the release of the S710a.
It should be out sometime next few weeks.
P.S the V3 Razr is nice...but it's just a Moto V551/600 in a pretty case.

Jeez, somebody sure is Digruntled today...
I say wait it out if you can, but if you're waiting for a 3MP/PDA/Phone that works in the US, you're gonna be waiting for awhile.

Exactly. The K700i is a great phone and recent firmware upgrades have improved battery life 3-fold. It is not a good phone for Cingular as someone mentioned above but works fantastic with T-Mobile. I get full signal in my apartment whereas my wife's T610 gets only 2-3 bars max. All in all, I'd wait as well.

The other thing that made the k700 look rushed/cheap to me (other than the poor firmware and battery) is the camera had a sliding cover on the back. They removed the slider last minute because it interfered with the antenna but left the little slider slot.

3G phone service is here in the US just not on cingular. Sprint, Verizon and US cellular all use the 3G networks. Once the Sprint-Nextel merger is complete Nextel will be moving to 3G service. So 3G is here and competing with 2.5G and the prices are not that high. The edge network is still 2.5G. Edge is just a tweaked version of the way data is sent via the gsm system to allow higher speeds to compete with cdma. With ev-do being released nationwide with verizon and sprint this year cdma will again have the higher speeds. To learn more about what 3g is go to www.cdg.org they have some good info on what 3g systems are. 3g uses spread spectrum where gsm gives each user a specified frequency to use. As for making the jump to 3g well thats up to wether or not you are happy with your service. If you're happy with your service stick with it and get the tri band Sony Ericsson S710a.
