Thinksecret reported the first confirmed details of the flash iPod. I don't understand why they are still posting articles considering they are being sued.
"Apple's long-rumored flash-based iPod will be introduced at Macworld Expo in 1GB and likely 2GB versions, Think Secret has confirmed. Various details regarding the device have emerged days before Apple CEO Steve Jobs is set to unveil the tiny music player during his keynote address.
Rapidly falling flash prices have enabled Apple to buy 1GB modules from Samsung at a relatively low cost, sources report, which in turn will allow Apple to sell the device for $149. Sources have also suggested that a 2GB version, packing two tiny 1GB flash modules, may sell for $199."

Perhaps they see no merit in Apple's lawsuit?

or maybe because apple don't actually know who to sue yet?
plus they know that they're getting vastly improved hit counts now with all the extra attention - lots of nice advertising revenue. Might as well milk it if you're going to be going down!

I will buy a 1gb iPod for $150. That's in my "impulse buy" range for an Apple product.
1GB would give you roughly 200 songs or [/b]13 hours of music[/b]. Great for zipping to work, etc.
Now if only the battery will last 13 hours...

Flash-based... keep your fingers crossed. Power consumption on those is better.

My housemate would love a new flash player, but only if it is drag & drop without other programs - that's his main annoyance with the ipod

I say those guys are idiots. They are getting sued (rightly so) by a company with A LOT more money than them. And yet, they STILL post the same stuff that got them sued in the first place. Cojones? I think not - stupidity is more like it. This just adds more fuel to Apple's lawsuit and demonstrates that the ThinkSecret people think they are above the law. Not a good idea in my opinion. You cannot post trade secrets and think you can get away with it - doesn't matter where you got them. A lot of sites have been shut down for far less than that. It is one thing to speculate, quite another to blatantly post Apple "insider" information that is under NDA. It is even worse that they actually ASK people to violate their NDA and give them information. Apple is really cracking down on this stuff (remember the lawsuit over Tiger build leaks).

You mean cracking down again. Remember before the 12 inch PowerBooks were released nobody knew about those before the show as I remember. Everyone thought the PB would be 15.4 inches instead. My guess is people at Apple got cosy and figured they could leak again. NOT WITH SIR JOBS AT THE HEALM!... I want my data back...

Yeah, it's true that Nick's playing a dangerous game. On the other hand, he's been in it so long, I would have to assume that he knows the ropes well enough. And I don't think a third party can be bound by the terms of an NDA that said party did not sign on to. It will be interesting to see whether Apple gets anywhere against him.

I'm not sure I blame TS for anything, seeing that their "source" must be an NDA-bound Apple employee who is leaking the information to them. They need to sue those people.

What's surprising to me is that in several cases, TS removed news per request of Apple. So sometimes, they (TS) must feel that they have bad cards, and in this case, rather good ones.

There is no way that Apple would win a lawsuit. They are only attempting to gain access to TSs logs so that they can determine where the information is originating.
In the US, the Press has the right to publish any information I get from anyone even if it may be unethical to do so. I'm not saying anything about the ethics involved with this as I don't really have an opinion on that, but TS will not have to pay one dime in damages as they are protected by the first amendment. It is really very clear-cut. If, on the other hand, they are not located in the US then their countries laws will probably be very different and they may be violating some law, but I doubt it.

can't remember where i read it, but it could be true that apple has to go after TS since they really don't have anyone else to go after. they do not know who TS' source is. so if apple goes after TS, they either sue them or TS gives up the information on their source and apple goes after them.

Why not sue TS after the show is over? Seems to me that Apple may be crying foul before the show because they get more marketing mileage/news media's attention in doing this. I won't be surprised if Apple and TS are in this together! It just doesnt make sense to sensationalize the whole leakage issue before the Macworld show, in fact it runs counter to what they want to preserve, which is "the surprise factor". Just my 0.02$ as usual. I wonder if it is time to thaw that credit card out of my freezer! ;-)

I think they only remove screengrabs, which I don't think they have the right to post in the first place.

Screenshots and product photos contain Apple copyrighted materials. They've been replacing product photos with "artist renditions" for a few years now.

excellent, i hope they keep even making smaller capacity models so that my original scroll wheel 5gb iPod can still be considered a higher end model!
how do sites like thinksecret make money anyways? solely through ads? probably have day jobs or something.
