I remember, when iTunes Music Store opened up and people started traveling around with the songs they purchased, they had some problems playing the songs outside of the country. How does this work?
Can one purchase a song in the US, while visiting, then return to their own country and listen to that song. I am interested in not the countries that already have iTunes Music Store, but the ones that don't have it yet.
Thank you,
t

failsafe: buy songs off of iTMS. burn them to an audio CD. if AAC files don't work just rip the CD as mp3, aac, whatever your heart desires. voila, no drm, no problems.

You can play the songs where ever you like. You can buy music from the U.S. iTMS only if you have a credit card with a U.S. address.

There's a program called JHymn that makes duplicates of your music without the DRM. It's faster than burning to a CD and reripping. Takes about 5 seconds a song on my G3 to make a copy.

There is no country affiliation to iTunes songs. Once you buy it it's yours. You can play it anywhere.

sorry, not trying to be mean, but yeah...dumb question.
how does a song know where your computer is in the world? once you bought it and it is on your hard drive, you can play it anywhere you like.

...OK then here is a different question. Can you authorize a computer to play your songs without it being within an iTunes country? So once you take the songs out how can you place it on the extra computers... can iTunes do that?

Yes. You can authorize anywhere you have an internet connection. The only limitation iTunes imposes is on the PURCHASE of songs. You have to have a US credit card address to purchase from the US store, a UK address to buy from the UK store, etc...

Plus, you can upload to multiple iPods but only authorize three computers to play iTunes purchased music.

OK... then here is another thought... I still have a few ideas.
Is it possible to buy an iTunes gift certificate in the US for someone in Europe (not in a country where iTunes Music Store is currently available) and for them to purchase songs online? In that case you paid with a US credit card, US address...

It's tied to your credit card, and I bought music all the time from the US iTMS when I was in Canada.
