During this episode, I kept flashing back to previous shows that didn't completely drop what was happening every five seconds for no apparent reason.

Agreed. This BSG ep tried twice as hard to be half as effective. Too much Sturm und Starbuck. That Kat chick is very annoying--her two acting forms are shriek and shriek louder and faster. I've found her voice irritating since "Hand of God" ("Chuckles bought it!")
I actually preferred last week's ep to this. Meh-minus

I dunno I think I'm too much of a BSG fanboy, because I thought this episode was really good. Kat is annoying as hell, but she's supposed to be. You were supposed to wanna deck her to feel what Starbuck was going through.
The humanizing of the Cylon raiders was very interesting I thought, especially Scar.

That was my first thought too, the Cylons have a Chiggy Von Richthofen.
I did really like the idea that Raiders are living, sentient beings that get resurrected just like the humanoid Cylons. A fighting pit bull wrapped in a crunchy metal shell with cannons and a rocket up its ass. I cybernetic machine that not only feels, but hates, wants to survive, and knows that with the resurrection ship gone, it must turn to animal cunning and ruthlessness to insure it's own survival. To me, that's the far and away coolest concept this show has come up with to date.
Now, my only question is, when did they find all this out about the Raiders? About them being sentient? Like TETENAL, I wasn't too impressed with the miniseries, so I didn't bother with the show until the end of season one (I mean the very end), and then I got hooked. So was this something they discovered in season one? I didn't recognize the scenes they showed in the "Previously on..." opening, so did I miss something this season, or was it something from season one? I guess I have to go pick up season one on DVD this weekend.

Long story short, Starbuck crashed landed on a barren planet with a Raider she was fighting and managed to get inside it and fly it back to Galactica. Don't wanna tell you too much more and risk spoiling it for you though
It's EP5 Season1, "You Can't Go Home Again."

Well, they figured out that the Raiders are partly biological at least when Kara flew one back to Galactica after being shot down in Season 1 (that was the "Previously on..." reference that showed her ripping apart the innards of one). I don't think they knew exactly what level of consciousness the Raiders operated under until Boomer started giving them more information about their "animal" characteristics.

Ah, thanks for the info. In the time between my last post and this one, i ran to the mall and picked up season one. Unfortunately, I have to go to work now, so I won't be able to watch it till tomorrow. Thanks for the info though.
And I'll say again, this is so much cooler than the original BSG's three gold-chrome Cylons crewing a raider. I love this concept!
The thing I didn't like about this episode is that no CO, especially one as gung-ho and high intensity as Kara, would let a subordinate continue to publically call them out. They would have been dealt with, and more than likely harshly. Moore said in one of the podcasts that he was a squid officer, so he certainly knows this.

OMG this episode was a frakkin' bore. This half-season has been quite the letdown.
211: Resurrection Ship, Part 1 - Good
212: Resurrection Ship, Part 2 - OK I suppose.
213: Epiphanies - Meh. Nah, not just meh. Irritating.
214: Black Market - Meh. Good concept, poor implementation.
215: Scar - OMG this episode was a frakkin' bore.

I agree with the exception of 212 - I dug that one.
Time to get back to the whole search-for-Earth thing, methinks.

(This started roughly with the cliffhanger episode of season 2.)

Agreed. I cringe everytime I see "XX HOURS AGO" on the screen now. Used sparingly it's ok, but S2 is doing it way too much. The episode was ok, but how some druggie all the sudden got balls is beyond me.

Um ah, ok Scar was OK. I don't think the show works quite as well when they aren't focusing on the whole crew and the whole baltar/six thing.
The farm focused on Starbuck and that went really well, in this episode I just found that Kat really annoyed me even more than she does in other episodes. She is the only character I want dead.
The last 2 episodes didn't feel right at all, I hope this isn't the beginning of the end for the show as up till 214 I thought they could do no wrong.

I really like this episode's focus on the fighter pilots, and as a former one I appreciated the authentic terminology. They really did a great job with the lingo and its correct use.

This episode was a lot different from the previous three or four: it dealt with one person close-up and the rest of the story integrated with the conflict of that person. Despite this, there were some really nice fighting scenes in space. It's not like they have to have those in every episode, not at all, but this is still a sci-fi show and so you'd expect that they blow things up every once in a while. That was the biiig disappointment with Resurrection Ship: they presented the strategy to the audience, but you couldn't really see much of the fight. In the podcast, they said they want to do things differently, but omitting those scenes was out of place. I'd prefer they had added another episode with the aftermath of Resurrection Ship 1+2, but they didn't.
That said, they hit my personal sweet spot this time.

Re: battle scenes. Yes, it was an improvement, but still not good enough in my opinion. The scenes are either too short, too dark, or too distant. You can't make out enough detail. In contrast, Babylon 5 had absolutely brilliant space battles. Hopefully, by season 3, we'll see more detail in BSG's battle scenes.

Hmmm, there's some truth to it, although this time, just for the effects, I really liked them. They felt more like a rush, so that `regular' people like us can't make out too many details. But if you the movie, you can see some really nice effects, mirror images of gun fire in Kara's visor, etc.
I guess you had the more traditional variety in the beginning of the second season (?) when Galactica raids the Cylon tyllium mining facility in the asteroid belt. Some really nice classics, a flight through trenches, etc.

I find the Battlestar space scenes rather enjoyable. Too often CGI Space battles are too bright and shinny. Everything looks like it was brightly polished and well lit from some strange light source. Dark and gritty is how life is. Like the original star wars movies. This looked gritty and real because they were models. This in contrast to the new movies where everything looked like it came from an xbox game.

I liked the CGI, but I couldn't understand what the frak they were saying half the time, because the audio was too garbled. (I know the audio was supposed to be garbled, but it was too much this time.)
That and the gadzillion flashbacks interspersed just made things annoying. And what's with the muzak in the background for some of the scenes? It was like watching some cheezy Korean soap opera. (I know because one of the local Korean restaurants insists of playing cheezy Korean soaps on the TV in the restaurant. At least the food is cheap and good though.) I guess they're really trying to do that space opera thing.
And I will repeat... These flashbacks are getting just too damn irritating. We've had three episodes in a row now that were built around flashbacks. What gives? If they never talk again about Flanders or whatever his name is, I'd be very happy. Or else if they do have to mention him again (and I think they will), it'd better be on a show where they actually go back and get him or else where he shows up on his own with his rogue anti-Klingon... errr... anti-Cylon team or whatever on some stolen scout ship.
P.S. How many of you listened to the podcast? I just did, and I felt like I was the fly-on-the-wall for the annual meeting of the Mutual Admiration Society.

I don't know... I really like how the ships move like they're in the weightless vacuum of space, not flying through air.

What's up with this "God said this." "God said you shall do that" ... stuff in the new Battlestar Galactica? I don't remember that the old series was so religious (or was that cut out in the German version of the old series?)
And why does the Cylon robot believe in god anyway? The Cylons have a creator already, they don't need to believe in god. This doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Are you serious? Have you even watched the show? Listened to the dialogue?
1. God made Man
2. Man made Cylons
3. Cylons killed Man
4. Man dispersed to 12 colonies
5. Man became ploytheistic
6. Cylons became monotheistic
7. Cylons are God new "Man"
8. Cylons are God's tool to destroy old, bad creation (Man)

EDIT: RAILhead spelled out the main ideas pretty well.
Also, speaking from modern experience, it's not that unusual to already know where you come from, yet still believe in a deity. After all, we have a reasonable understanding of evolution and yet many intelligent, formerly unreligious people convert to one religion or another each year (like my father did a few years ago). If the Cylons believe that part of their "purpose" was to be created by humans and then destroy them, then they could still view their creation as part of their overall belief system.

He said on the last page that the show just aired for the first time in Germany, so odds are that he probably hasn't had much of an opportunity to watch the show, listen to the dialogue, and figure out the religious beliefs or the Colonials or the Cylons. So yeah, I think he was serious
I think that the Cylons are religious is a pretty cool twist. Am I the only one that finds the Cylons far more interesting than the Colonials?

I think I liked it better when they were just plain evil and worked for an evil man and a robot with a light bulb in his head. But who knows, maybe the new one will get better over time. I admit the plot you outlined has the potential to be hilarious. So far I still find it kind of boring though.

Yup. To the Cylon's beliefs, God realized that He made a mistake and now He's using the Cylons to purge the Universe of Mankind.
They had to add a deep-seeded reasoning behind the Cylon's motives. Simply being mad about once having been "slaves" for humans is stupid and far too simplistic. Revenge wasn't a good enough motivator for the re-imagining, so they went with purpose instead. The purpose being, wiping out Mankind for God.

Not true. It has been addressed time and time again that God has not taken a side between man and Cylon, and that he loves both equally.

Once you wanted revolution, now you're the institution, how's it feel to be the man?

I don't think it was stupid. For a robot it wouldn't matter whether it is a slave or not, but the emperor of those robots was a human. And humans can be very stubborn when they had been rejected. They could have elaborate on that idea (I don't know whether the Cylon emperor died in the original series or not though).
Now being "religious" doesn't make much sense for robots. Robots don't have their own soul. They are just programmed to behave in a certain way. So it's a "fake" religious feeling and the robots must know it. And the humans wouldn't have to fight against the robots. Just reprogram them and - boom - problem solved. You also get your slaves back as a side effect. I bet that blonde robot would sell great as house maid.
So, I think that fighting against another evil human is more interesting than fighting against simply malprogrammed robots. (But to be fair, I hated the episodes on earth in the original series. The other ones were quite fun to watch though.)

His love has nothing to do with anything. The Cylons believe they are His new chosen race, and it's their job to rid the world(s) of Mankind. Please go back and re-watch the mini series as well as season 1.
Thanks.

I like the robots... but a VS model? WFT? Where the hell did the real BSG go?

The mini-series was a 180-minunte series (2 night) broadcast in 2003. Season 1 started in 2004.

Maybe they lumped it together here. The first two episodes were two hours, the third episode today was just one hour.
