Yeah. Like I've said before, I watched the miniseries and actually didn't like it that much, but the actual series managed to become something really cool. So I'm willing to give Moore et al. the benefit of the doubt.

I think that's the problem. They are trying so hard to be unpredicable that they're just getting non-sensical at this point. HOW the heck could those 4 be cylons? It's silly?

Of course! If you are a true pessimist every surprise is a pleasant one. For the optimist every surprise is a disappointment.

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

Can somebody clue me in to the miniseries? How is it different from the first few shows of the regular series?
a quick google turned up inconclusive - even wikipedia had no details...

If you just assume that it's not - because nothing in the series has been, so far, in three seasons - then it's merely intriguing.
You're also forgetting that this thing was planned as a finite series, not as an endless soap, so the basic storyline has been set from day one. They're not "trying hard to be unpredictable", that implies that they're making important decisions on-the-spot.

Even pessimists were surprised at the Matrix's devolution.
And the last sentence is just complete

I think the writers are doing a fantastic job with BSG. Sure there might have been a few so so episodes in season 3 but even so they weren't bad.

By Moore's own admission, that is not true at all. While it was planned as a finite series, much of the basic storyline has been made up as they go along.
They're not "trying hard to be unpredictable", that implies that they're making important decisions on-the-spot.
I agree with the contention that they at times are "trying [too] hard to be unpredictable".

Contrary to comments by Edward James Olmos (Adm. Adama) at the Saturn Awards on May10, no end has been announced for the award-winning show. Battlestar Galactica is preparing to film its fourth season, one that will include 22 episodes, rather than the previously announced 13.

The miniseries covers the hours prior to the Cylon attack on the Twelve Colonies, the attack, Roslin's assumption of the office of the President, and the immediate aftermath. Its pivotal importance is that it is when Adama (at least temporarily) acknowledges Roslin's civilian authority, and he agrees that the Galactica and the surviving civilian fleet should run, instead of stand and fight (and he pretends to know where Earth is).
It's the first disc of the U.S. Season 1 DVD release.
There's a plot summary of the two nights that starts here: Miniseries, Night 1 - Battlestar Wiki

Given the immense scale of the universe, could it be that bananas exist on other planets?

I liked the miniseries. It wasn't outstanding, but it was still quite good, and set the tone (and backdrop) for the entire series.
If you haven't seen the miniseries and you like the BSG TV show, then the miniseries is a must-see.

Well if we didn't know already the TV movie is called Razor.
"A two-hour Battlestar Galactica special that tells the story of the Battlestar Pegasus several months prior to it finding the Galactica."

Hmm. Starbuck is not listed in the cast. An accidental omission or intentional?

Well, if it's about the Pegasus prior to it finding the Galactica, then I'm not sure why any of the regular Galactica cast are in it, unless they are going to flashback to before the attack.

All the other primary BSG cast members are listed. My guess is the omission was accidental.

My guess is that this list is completely made up, and none of the BSG cast will be in Razor. Anyone can post information to IMDB, and I doubt this is anything official.

This could be, although I think Moore mentioned in one of his podcasts that the BSG cast would be in it.

He did.
He also said it isn't just about before they met Pegasus but events that took place when the two battlestars were together.
My guess...
They show Pegasus shortly before the first attack to get a feel for normal life... then the attack which Caine described where she made a cold jump and where #6 completed her mission on Pegasus. Then other events we heard of where Pegasus had a civilian fleet, Caine strips them for people/supplies, a few Pegasus attacks on Basestars and they notice the cylons are jumping to natural resources so they follow only to find BSG. After that will be events we didn't see before between both crews after they first met but before Caine gets offed.
The thing that sucks is they have to rebuild the Pegasus sets.
