More iSight antics at the Apple Store in Aventura. I'm fairly certain they're going to stop letting me come in there. I hogged the 20" iMac set up for audio for about 40 minutes. But I got to iSight with my bud, Mr. Frost, so it was a good deal.

That bike is absolutely sick. I saw it once somewhere and have been trying to find it since. Didn't realize it was Choppers Inc.

Chalk it up to my Icelandic genes. The jacket is not a 66°N -- I'm not *that* hardcore Icelandic.

Yeah, I wondered about that one too... But I just figured we had an undercover French actor in our midst

Edit: Since you're all so eager to see me (shut up and agree, dammit!), thought I'd better throw a pic in here as well, newb or not:

Yeah, straight out of the shower... needed a pic where for once my hair was cut and I was clean shaven... thought I'd better take it before I forgot to again...

That's the one - got one of those fandangled waterproof cases for my digital camera a while ago - heaps of fun (especially scuba diving at the great barrier reef with it!)

Erm, no. That would be a fairly nice shower in a very nice apartment - by local standards, that is. This is the shower in our old apartment ('old' as in until two months ago). It was dirtier and ghettoer than the picture makes it out to be.

Well, some are... but mostly, no, they're not...

But just so we get the standards straight here: American ghetto/slum more or less equals standard Beijing apartments. Standard American apartments more or less equal Beijing "very nice" apartments. American luxury apartments more or less equal Beijing luxury apartments.

The closest American equivalent of Beijing slum is a bicycle shed. And Beijing slum more or less equals standard houses in the countryside outside of Beijing.

All my approximate estimates/guesses, but I think they are in fact quite close to the truth. We live in a "very nice" apartment, which is more or less the standard I'd expect from a normal, low-cost apartment at home. Three bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom, living room area thingy for 3000 Yuan (360 USD) per month. That's quite cheap for a place like this, especially considering it's one of the most expensive parts of town (the fancy disco part)...

Well they do have an iKea shower curtain.

Is it really that much to ask to have the pipes on the OTHER side of the tiles?

Hehe, well spotted! It was actually here when we moved in, but my flatmate had one just like it in Copenhagen...

Let me explain something to you about Chinese construction/building/stuff...

It never works! And when it does, it never works for very long.

And then when you call your landlord to have someone come and fix it, some idiot with no idea what he's doing comes by and fixes everything so there are "no problems" [translated from "mei wenti", a phrase that often indicates that there is indeed a grave problem hiding just beneath the surface!] - and moreover, fixes it with the good ol' tape 'n chewing gum method!

Then, after two days when the damn thing's broken again, you go back to step one and start all over again.

This is why it's very practical to have the pipes outside the tiles - it makes them so much more accessible when they need to be repaired.

I nearly suggested once that they simply do it properly, with proper tools and everything, so it wouldn't break again. But then I realised I didn't know how to say that in Chinese, or even if it was possible to say it in Chinese. Plus, I didn't want their brains to fry by thinking of this whole new innovative concept.
