I saw a couple of clips from the show on the "Best of Will Ferrell DVD".
What`s up with that guy laughing all the time??
And it`s kind of a fake laugh at that.

Conan rocks, he doesn't even hate my country
but the not-so-late-night Leno spot requires some toning down of his style?

I just wish they'd make the change now ... I can't stand Leno. They should have given "Tonight" to Letterman back when Carson retired in '92.
I wonder how O'Brien will remake his show for the earlier time slot ... in 2009 he'll be 46 years old.

No, it'll have Conan - who is about as far from funny as a living person can get.

NBC screwed over Letterman back in 1992 and they could very well do it again to Conan. I wouldn't be surprised if by 2009 NBC changes their mind and chooses a different successor. Remember the whole world thought that Dave would succeed Carson, and the network lead him to believe it as well. While this public announcement is certainly more concrete, I wouldn't put it past NBC executives.

Conan constantly brings the focus back on himself during his "interviews". The guy is the most insecure, idiotic self-indulgent spaz in show biz. Someone should tell him that talk shows consist of talking about the guest, not talking about himself.
All the more reason to stay with Letterman.

Are you sure you aren't talking about Craig Kilborn?

Conan is an interesting character, I'll give him that, but the overall comedy bits are just plain retarded. David Letterman is the best!

Best Late Night Show on TV is Conan, bar none. You yuppies and your Letterman can go have a top ten reasons David Letterman is funny, and hopefully by '09 you'll be half way done. Conan forever!!!!

Cone-dog hosting the Tonight Show could be sweet, but as someone else pointed out, if he has to tone it down too much, it could suck.
Oh yeah, Conan is da bomb!

I stopped watching Conan after his Easter Special where he had Jesus on the cross doing jumping jacks.
That said he's way funnier than Leno, and worlds funner than Letterman... I don't get why anyone likes Letterman he's LAME.

If I wanted to see boring, monotonous interviews with vacuous movie stars, I'd watch Leno. If I want to see someone who can take the blandest situation and turn it into the funniest thing ever, I'll wath Conan. Way to go!
I'm afraid, though, that moving to an earlier time slot will force him to get rid of the Masturbating Bear and probably a number of other funny but "offensive" things he had on the show. Knowing Conan, though, he'd probably still make it funny.

I just remembered: The Walker Texas Ranger Lever.. Awesome..
Did anybody see the episode where he used it in conjunction with the Axel F button? That was also awesome.
Conan is so cool...

I actually prefer Leno to all the rest. After him, it's Conan though. The "Walker Texas Ranger Lever" was good.

I miss Craig.
Anyway, I assume this announcement has to do with the speculation following Kilborn's departure that Conan might jump to CBS at the end of his contract in 2005, spend a couple of years at The Late Late Show, and then succeed Dave.
I think NBC got scared, and made sure Conan would stay put.

Probably, but his first few years at CBS were great, and I think he was motivated by the snub.

Jay just announced the news on the show and bluntly said that they were announcing it now for that reason.

Late night TV hasn't been good for years and I'd just as soon see all of those guys canned. Leno hasn't been funny since he had long, curly hair and did stand-up. Letterman and O'Brien have never been funny. Letterman and O'Brien really take the "starring" role seriously putting their guests in a minor supporting role. Imagine the pompousness of having your chair elevated a few inches higher than the ones in which your guests sit.
The Tonight Show itself should have been put to sleep when Carson left, or perhaps even earlier considering the poor quality of the writing and Johnny's too frequent absences.

Conan's gonna suck when he get's the Tonight Show. He's going to have to tone it down, and I don't think he can do that and still be funny. Letterman was The Man when he was on the Late Show. I think he made the transition really well, but the show definitely mellowed out for the earlier audience. You just can't get away with the same things in the earlier time slot.
