A friend of a friend is selling his villa in San Marino, and I'm strongly considering buying. I've visited before and it was just incredible. Great people, wonderful surroundings and atmosphere. Simply put, I fell in love with it.

Anything I should know? Any thoughts?

Considering that 99% of the forum probably never heard of it, where would the thought some from ?

I liked San Marino, although it's been years that I have been there.
I don't know about real estate prices, but I'd expect it to be rather expensive.

Do you have pictures ?
How much ?

Very funny post, Man of Steal!

BTW, Ricky Henderson was AWESOME and he's still an incredible athlete. I've admired him a long time. 1st ballot hof!

I used to live on Fair Oaks in South Pas and San Marino is a WONDERFUL community as long as you don't mind the bird 'caws' from the Huntington Museum, library...whatever it is.

If I had the $$ I'd move there in a second!

Good for you!

Just thinking about it makes me miss everything about the San Gabriel Valley.

SIGH!!!

edit: Or are you talking about ANOTHER San Marino?

I think he's talking about San Marino, Italy.

I don't know of too many villas in San Marino, CA. Lots of mansions; I'm sure the residents there wish they were called villas though. As for it being a WONDERFUL community, it all depends on who you talk to. I lived there for a number of years and it has good and bad aspects, just like any place.

The Huntington Library is a hidden gem though. I highly recommend a visit there if you're ever nearby.

Sorry, been extemely busy.

Yes, I'm talking about the one surrounded by Italy. I should have realized that many would think I was talking about Cali.

It's not a large house, about 1500 sq/ft (139.35 sq/m), with enough property to plant a (very) small garden and park a car, though I'd probably just get a Vespa. The villa was built from an older structure (c.1880) and has been newly renovated (new roof, light structural repair, new heating and A/C, weather sealings, new windows and doors, and paint). I'll post some pics once I get them scanned. Kim and Sarra call it "so damned cute", I think of it more as "quaint"... a cross between a two story cottage and a cave. Would make an incredible summer home though.

As for price, the owner (a colleague of mine) is asking €220K (about $270K). I'm trying to get him down to €200K, but I think the price is very good compared to what I've seen online through real estate brokers.

I guess I was asking just to find out people's experiences with the area, opinions etc..
