I went there this summer, and it really is tragic - what is supposed to be the holiest site in Christendom is in fact the site of the largest amount of petty bickering instead. It was an amazing place in some ways though; it is, unlike many Holy Land sites, rather historically sound, and when we went there were hardly any other tourists (due to the violence in the area I guess), so I was able to spend some time alone in the Holy Sepulchre itself. It was moving, despite my personal convictions.

Hmmm.... I don't know. Jesus did have the whole moon walking thing down. Wait.. not moon walking, water walking. Either way, he could bust a move on the dance floor.

-1 Flamebait. If you'd bothered to RTFA instead of trying to bait the resident grammatically challenged obsessive, you'd have noticed that the fight was between Orthodox Christians and Franciscan monks.
I think you'd do everyone a favour if you'd just put your nemesis on ignore and avoid responding to and baiting the poor fellow.
Edit: Typo.

Historically sound? In what way? Have you heard the story of how they determined the location?
It is an impressive building, I hadn't visited it before this summer. I'm sure the Dome of the Rock is also impressive, but I'll pass on trying to get in there. It is sad to see the lack of tourism -- I'm sure it's really put a pinch on the Arab markets throughout the old city. When I was there ten years ago it was pretty crowded.

First off, people don't need religion to not like someone.
Second, correct me if I'm wrong, but you don't believe in God anyway, so why should it matter what the "reasons" behind someone else's persecutions are?

Today in my World Religions class, we were talking about Islam. The fact came up that Muslims view Muhammad's lifestyle as the correct one, and he is the ultimate role-model for all walks of life. Then our professor, who doesn't know much about Christianity, asked if it was common for people to strive to live their lives as Jesus did. One girl said no (pretty sure she was Christian, although apparently not a very good one) and another girl said yes, and gave "WWJD" as an example. Our professor asked about the wristbands a bit more, and I mentioned it was a fad. The girl spoke up and said, "No, it wasn't a fad, I think most take it seriously." I wasn't arguing that people didn't take it seriously.
So my question is, can't something be a fad and yet people take it seriously? I mean, it hasn't been around all that long, and when it started, it was everywhere. Now it's not as big. Sure seems like a fad to me. Just a "trendy" way of proclaiming your faith that you take seriously, right?
(Just felt like posting this here because starting my own would have just gone down the tubes like every other thread that mentions religion does.)

I think because the masses, influenced heavily by their religious upbringings, give him less rights as a gay person, although Canada is getting better.

WWJD is a good question, and yes, it's a fad to some, and serious to others.
A reminder I believe.
I know guy that used to have a ring that said "Jesus" around it.
Same idea.

But I think that WWJD was definitely a fad to the culture, and yet everyone involved took it seriously to some degree. I mean, if you weren't serious about your religion, you wouldn't be wearing that to school. I took a lot of crap in high school for wearing pro-Christian shirts, and this is in a town where they all WERE Christian.
So I think it's both serious and a fad to everyone, rather than split up between people. And it'll die off as something else comes into style. There are trendy things for all walks of life.

Lay off the crack.
There's NO ONE to help us out there. No one. We have to rely on ourselves, not an higher being.
GOD does NOT exist.
Dude... how is god helping the poor people of Haiti? Already one of the worst place to live on Earth. And now there's a catastrophe that makes them even poorer. God does NOT exist.

We've had this discussion before ad-nauseam. You have a bad memory. Do us all a favor and use the search function. Look for "The fall of man" You'll probably see your name in the conversation at least once.

Well for one, they use God and religion as an excuse to discriminate to and beat another person up.
Secondly they deny other people rights based on "what the bible says" such as gay marriages.
If they don't allow gay marriages in Catholic churches that is fine. Problem is they protest and try everything they can to make sure their beliefs are upheld in every regard including the law.
That is what is wrong.

Some gays are really sluts that sleep around. Does that mean you are?

Cept I know people that aren't religious that is against it too. But I never hear you complain about them

Upbringing by definition is "bias". Throw religion out of the equation and you still get a parent instilling his/her values on the child from birth. And since there is no such thing as a completely open, unbias person (be they straight, homosexual, or other) the child they raise will have many of the bias views that the parent holds. Why blame religion, why not blame the parents education or lack of it, or their status in the community...there are an infinite number things that influence that masses. Religion is picked on the most because its an easy target.

Many, many people quote the Bible and use religion as an excuse for their actions and views. You couldn't find many adults who back themselves up with "'cause my daddy said so."
