Im no social expert or psychologist. But.... what do you expect ? look around...you got 12 year olds having voluntary sex and 14 year olds having babies. DO you honestly think his kind of story is that far fetched and rare ?

I honestly think it's only gonna get worse...... sad part is we're all to blame for letting it go this far. I'm not a conservative in most respects, but when it comes to sex and having kids, i tend to be very conservative, only cause i'm afraid of things like this happening.

Ok, 14 year olds having babies is something that most of us forget, was a completely reasonable thing up until 100 years ago. Heck, 100 years ago your parents would be expecting you to support the family at age 16.

While this sort of thing is bad, underage sex and teen pregnancy is something that has and always will be a problem. Maybe if we didn't live and worship a society that embraces sex as a cultural norm, yet at the same time demonize it in daily life, we could talk openly about these subjects and then some of the problem would go away.

The answer isn't regression to a more 'conservative' time, the answer is to address these problems and understand them.

I do like how people often say 'morals are slipping in our society, we must get back to our old moral values." I like to respond with bringing up the classic victorian era approach: Sex with your clothing on, and the introduction of table skirts. You know, to cover the legs of the table, so that men would not become sexually aroused. I'm not making it up either.

Actually, an even better response would be to say 'lets bring back the morals of our greek and roman ancestors." You'd be surprised how many people agree to that.

Being a history major does have its uses.

The child's father, Mark Yetman, sat in the gallery clutching a framed photograph of his daughter, sobbing through much of the hearing in the Superior Court of Justice.

"I would rather she plead not guilty, try to fight the case in court, lose and then get a tougher sentence in the end," he said in a later interview.

Yetman, 27, said he and Dasilva had not wanted a child when they first met. But after Adrianna was born in July, 2000, Yetman, a roofer, said he was "in love" with the baby
Sure. I guess that's why he didn't take care of the child as well.

It's all the woman's fault. Hurray to death penalty!

Milkman, i agree with you. i'm fully aware of the greek and roman practices (and i likes it ). But yeah thank you for articulating what NEEDS to be the attitude towards sex and procreating. I kinda call myself a conservating in this matter because...like it or not, it(their approach) tends to work....in that no one gets hurt...let alone die.

But at the same time...people are gonna do exactly what they want to do, regardless of laws and opinions. oh well eh ?

Actually, in the olden days, people did get hurt. The loss of abortion rights in the past 200 years (abortion has been around for over 2500 years. We have ancient texts telling what herbs to take and when), the loss and outlaw of birth control, the sending of young women to convents to keep them away from boys (this was really bad in Ireland, where young girls accused of premarital sex were sent to prison convents), the disowning of children, extra marital affairs caused by strict church laws (was really bad in Mexico, and caused a horrible outbreak of STDs that were the center of many governmental debates. They even sent requests to the US for help in curbing their STD problem, which was caused by married men visiting brothels and not using condoms). Bad things happened all the time to people, at least these days we're more open to talk about it to some degree.

I often thing our zelious christian ideas about sex often block more rational means of preventing and teaching about it. The Bush administration had a study by the CDC pulled form its webpage, because the study showed that giving out free condoms in schools did not increase sexual activities. I do like the studies on abstinence teaching in schools to be entertaining, the ones that show that teaching abstinence only delays sex a year and at the same time ends up leading to unsafe sexual practices. These ideas from a President who while he was governor of Texas instituted an 'abstinence only' approach in Texas schools, which doubled teen pregnancy rates.

There is no easy answer, but I often find some people's thinking about sex and sex education to be more of an 'instill fear' as opposed to 'educate'.

Yep: "The last time the babysitter saw the child was Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, just before the weekend that Dasilva, then heavily in debt and being hounded by collection agencies, went out for a weekend of salsa dancing, Wright said."

It took this long to go before the court.

It just seems that these sad stories just keep coming. Why hadn't the father been checking up on the child.

why do you need a license to drive a car, but anyone can spit out as many kids as they ****ing want?

i really dont think there should be a government control system on reproduction, but its just ****ing frustrating to see people make such insane stupid decisions in their lives.

i hope that woman gets ****ing ass raped by some trucker dyke in prison repeatedly.

I am in favour of stoning... and maybe reproduction should be regulated by the goverment or atleast that if there are known problems with a woman AND/OR man that they get castraded or whatever (with problems I mean mentaly or otherwise un-curable problems, think of pedofilie etc.)... most children with problems (please note the word MOST) come from disfunctional families.

No, no one will probably answer it because it has been answered in here many many times before ad-nauseam.

Some God haters need to start paying attention and stop derailing threads about their obsession with God. And it's not the Christians that are doing it.

Its amazes me that some people 10 years younger would have shown more responsibility. She clearly didn't want nor cared about the child why not give it to the father or... something? Hope she gets a nice loooong sentence.

...completely against political racism!

Cause when you have a kid, you get a bigger welfare check (at least in the U.S. I don't know how this works in Canada)
