...because it is so easy to bypass! All I did to copy a copy protected album, is insert it in my PC, deny its software install by simply clicking cancel on the box, and then opening RecordNow, and copying. No lines drawn on the edges or anything. I put the copy into my SHARP and KENWOOD stereos; all work perfectly.

I have a friend who has a PowerMac G4 with OS 9. When he puts in a copy protected CD, it comes up as two discs. The software and the audio seperately, so he just copies the audio. My Summer 2001 G3 iMac freezes on a copy protected disk's insertion, and I have to restart. The whole thing is a huge botch up.

What do you guys think and have you had any experiences?

Ya it is really pathetic and just makes we want to buy LESS music.

Whenever I get a copy protected CD I make a point out of copying it for as many people as I can. At the same time I remove the copy protection.

Yep...as stated in the article I linked above:

CD Copy Protection Creates Pirates.

Have you guys noticed the slew of albums that are "copy protected" on a PC but not on a Mac ? In the last 6 weeks, me or my roommate bought the Velvet Underground, Kasey Chambers, and .. uh ... at least one other that would not rip on PC without hacking but iTunes pulled it in without so much as a hiccup.

that was the one that I burned. not probs. Just ran it straight through RecordNow, in windows too. If I put the burnt copy in, however, it has the copy protection software, but it can be burnt too.

that's interesting. I'm in the US but I actually bought the KC Australian import a couple of months before she released here. Roommate's PC wouldn't do it without using a commonly know system hack. No hack required on my Mac.

Can't wait to see her again on Nov 9 at the Orange Peel in Asheville, NC. Saw her on Feb 14, 2003. What a sweetheart
