Get one of these instead, It is 'supposed' to work on glass even though it's an optical (uses an invisable lazer).

Someone should make a Glass desk using that cool glass that has those tiny painted dots on, that would give optical mice something to 'see'.

I use a 12" square piece of polished black granite tile. Works quite well with the optical mouse. Very smooth. My faux woodgrain desktop would occasionally confuse the optical beam, and my pointer would dissapear, then reappear across the screen somewhere. The ultra-smooth granite has stopped that.

Go to your local computer store and pick up one for $1.

BTW, your post reminded me of this bash.org quote:
<digidug> i love it when geeks take every chance they get to brag about their hardware
<digidug> so i was lying in my bed and my DUAL ATHLON 2GHZ SERVER was keeping me awake with its 5 SUPER HIGH THROUGHPUT FANS so i went downstairs and played a SPECIAL SUPER BETA VERSION OF QUAKE 3 (FOR WHICH I AM A BETA TESTER) on my PLEXIGLASS-COVERED TRANSPARENT TOWER WITH FIVE INTEL PENTIUM 4'S RUNNING A CUSTOMIZED VERSION OF LINUX
<digidug> so i didn't get much sleep last night
