I show the Dock at the bottom with large icons.

Where's the option for "LaunchBar"?

I have mine to the right, smallish icons, hidden, hardly ever used. Mag off.

Ditto.

Since the target itself doesn't actually move, it just appears to.

Hidden and Magnified 100%. I have quite a bit kept in there too, right now, I have 32 icons altogether.

Look after my manor, or I will bum you, literally, to death.

hidden, bottom right corner, no mag. If I had a bigger screen things may be different (12").

hey are you that guy on halo who was trying to hit me as I strafed around him fragging him?

show mag off

btw you know what would be awesome is if someone made a utility that allowed you to automatically update the dock for example:
if you had the most recently launched items up to a number of the user's preference.

Show with slight mag to bring attention to what I'm over without forcing me into a boxing match with the d@mn thing

Well I was going to post a pic like krusty but my settings are exactly the same as his. It drives me nuts when the dock is hidden and since I mouse-over it by accident a lot I can't stand the huge mag.

Well then, if we're delving into specifics...

Code:
defaults read com.apple.dock { autohide = 0; largesize = 64.88888549804688; magnification = 1; mineffect = scale; "mod-count" = 745; orientation = bottom; "persistent-apps" = (removed for brevity); tilesize = 32; "trash-full" = 1; }
I find that with these settings, when you scrub the dock, the text label stays in the same vertical position, avoiding it from see-sawing up and down from icon to icon. There are most likely other tilesize/largesize combos that do that, but these work well with my screen.

Hiding is just for lesser people with crappy, tiny monitors

Mag is the only way. Especially if you run two big monitors..

Showing on bottom. Magnification = Dock Size so magnification kicks in when the dock gets full and the icons shrink.

Yep.
Mag doesn't work for me either. Slows down the process...
