The last litter of six puppies — four males and two females — was born at the monastery one month ago.
And they never did wear those wee whiskey barrels...

from link
In the 1600s, the St. Bernard monks decided they needed help rescuing snowbound travelers.
When I first read it, I thought it said snowboard travelers.
1600s ? Just didn't sound right !

Even monks are living under our "great" system, sadly: so, in order to survive, they must sell something, eventually...

(Now, the question if monks couldn't have given a better contribution to society in other ways - without isolating themselves from the world, maybe? - is quite another matter, of course.)

Somehow it's kind of nice to know their are still monks in the world. Too bad they can't afford their dogs anymore. And the catholic church so rich, too.

From the article:
"But today, there are only four monks remaining, and they say they don't have the time or the money to take care of the dogs."
Maybe they need to pay the monks more too...only 4 left.
