I did something a bit bad. my friend just switched to mac we wanted to play a multiplayer game. We played Quake III but he used my copy.

so far only compusa has Quake III around here but it's the pc/linux version.

two part question before the lock

would the pc key work on mac?

two, would it be consider right for him to buy the pc version for the mac since no physical store around here has the pc/mac version?

I figure it's more right for him than using no key or using my key for internet play but I like playing on the internet too and don't want there to be a day I try to get on a server and the key is already in use somewhere.

I know this might need to go to mac games, or be locked, but really it's just a question.

If Jesus and I had to wrestle I would just pinch his bum and he will run away scared of my sins.

i think you can transfer over the base3q folder and download the latest point release and you're good to go.

Well, I'd guess the code won't work. The third-party companies that do the Mac conversions won't get paid if you buy a PC version.

Why not go online and order a copy for Mac with overnight shipping?

with id games, it always worked for me to download the game engine and add the mission packs from the pc version (I bought quake2 for pc, switched to the mac and used it for my mac). should work now, too.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

tooki, I brought up that some other company may have done work but he's all for instant gratification even if that means paying tax.

I am pretty sure it will work. I am like 90% sure ID did the mac "port" of the game on their own (it was a simultanious release mac and pc, much like Blizzard does). You can download the latest point release, and get the OS X application, and then use the baseq3 folder from the PC install.

Even if you bought the mac version, it will come with an OS 9 application and insaller, so you will need to download the latest point release anyways to get the OS X binary.
