if this is your first then feel around and check in to RSSOwl.
it works with Amphetarate which is really cool... I could harp about it or copy and paste the features but its easier to check it out instead.

I've never tried RSS before. I decided to give it a shot. This looks like it will be decent. Thanks.

If Safari in Tiger makes RSS feeds as easy as Newsfire, then RSS is going to whip the pants off Atom and everyone and their dog will have RSS feeds for just about anything. I'm adding XML pages for RSS to two websites I'm doing right now, even though they aren't blogs or get updated often. It just makes sense to provide the option if you can.
If you look at NetNewsWire app for OS X (the lite version is free), they have a a subscription pane that lets you look at their ongoing catalogue of about 3,000+ RSS feeds (blogs of all kinds, news, arts, etc). But it ain't as pretty as Newsfire.
I like all the ones mentioned here so far. Let me add:
iPod Lounge: Obviously, iPod related.
Gawker: Ridiculous NYC gossip, from Nick Denton's empire which includes Gizmodo.
Wonkette: Ridiculous political gossip, again, a Denton thing.
Defamer: Ridiculous celebrity gossip
The Morning News: Sort of like a school newspaper, for people who graduated and wish they hadn't (yet).

Well, since I wrote it, I use Tickershock. But getting your RSS in a scrolling ticker is a love it or hate it thing, so if you prefer NetNewsWire, PulpFiction or NewsFire then stick with that.
As for a good RSS feed, definitely check out Boing Boing. It's a "best of the blogs" feed that is always funny and topical (the editors do a good job of picking quality blog entries). Updated all the time. Apparently one of the most read sites on the web.

IIRC, Safari 2 will support Atom as well, won't it? Therefore the devs can still choose their format of choice without having Safari's support factor into the decision.
RSS feeds as a way to keep up to date on certain websites makes sense. But this is a feature of OW's bookmark's, isn't it?

You're right, this page says, "Safari RSS is compatible with all the RSS feeds on the Internet because of its standards-based support for RSS 0.9, RSS 1, RSS 2 and Atom."
Well, that's pretty cool after all! The debate between which is better will rage on.
If you can't wait for Safari RSS, try this: Saft 7 (let's you read RSS feeds in Safari with 10.3, among other tweaks to Safari)
