Has anyone bought it/played it yet?

How does it compare to Jedi and Jedi II?

Not too much into games, but the latter was ok if your into that sort of game.

Thinking about buying this soon.

Did you know there was a gaming forum?

Not many replies there. Maybe you'll get more here.

I think you'd prefer HomeWorld 2. Not only will it run on anything it is an awesome strategy game.

What video card do you have in your machine? If you've got an ATI Radeon 9000, you can forget it. Apparently the game runs like shite because that card has crappy vertex shader support. You can read all the bitching about it over at the forums at InsideMacGames.

Played it on PC, truly a great game. Downside of having the Mac version is that you had to wait 2 years to get it...

I'd say, it's worth your time and money. It was mine, anyway!

It's not much like Jedi/Jedi II though... those were first-person shooters, n'est pas? This one is more role-playing-gameish.

You've been given wrong information then. It does well on my old G4 Dual, and also well on my Powerbook 1.33 (although at first it kept crashing, but now it doesn't. I have no idea why). Homeworld is extremely addictive.

Homeworld is a really fun game. Don't worry too much about it being 5 years late on the Mac... it took 5 years on the PC for anyone to notice it. One of the most underrated games, I think.

I never liked any of the Jedi games. It would be more worthwhile to spend your bandwi-I mean money on other games, MilkmanDan

Why KoToR is such a slug:

KOTOR's rendering path uses vertex shaders exclusively, and pixel shaders for a high percentage of things. I don't believe there are any other Mac games that do this to nearly this extent.

In the cantina level, for example, KOTOR uses a 200+ instruction vertex shader, which when combined with the high number of polys in such a constrained space, really kills performance. You can alleviate this somewhat by using nVidia hardware - that rendering path was optimized for the xBox, so it runs better on less-demanding hardware.

Its an RPG, absolutely nothing like any of the other Jedi games. Are you thinking this is along the line of Jedi Knight I/II? Because its nothing like those.

Meh. At least he's not fawning over the 8bit graphics of some Nintendo game from ten years ago.

Good thing Nintendo DS doesn't have 8-bit graphics from ten years ago—not that I don't enjoy games from over ten years ago! (If that's what you're even talking about, because I'm not sure.)

I couldn't tell if you were just being petty and making a crack about my joy of Nintendo games, or ... or, yeah, just that.
