"It's ironic that Republicans have no problem with allowing assault weapons out on our streets, yet they don't want to put clean underwear in the hands of our slacker youth," Moore said. "The Republicans seem more interested in locking me up for trying to encourage people to participate in our democracy than locking up bin Laden for his attacks on our democracy."

wait, so you can't tell someone to vote for anyone, but the presidential candidates can tell you to vote for them?

"an election law provision that prohibits a person from contracting with another for something of value in exchange for agreeing to vote"

The only value Bush offers is more wars to give you a false sense of security.

Well of course. Anyone strong sided person would hope that only like-minds would go vote so that their candidate wins. But I'm guessing he was simply saying "go out and vote" rather than saying "go out and vote for Kerry."

I suppose the law is in place because if you weren't going to vote, then you don't really care. So if someone gives you something in exchange for a vote, you're probably going to vote for whoever the giver supports. And you're buying votes for a particular side which is not fair.

Moore is cool, got to hand it to the guy, he sticks his head out more than most would.
Good idea about the voting sceme too, there's huge numbers of young 'uns who don't vote. Could make a major difference to the election if they weren't fartin around on their skateboards.
Who, or what actually won the US election? Intolerance. The Bush campaign was built around pushing God down people's throats; attacking Gays; and more Guns for the idiotic. Gays, Guns & God. Congratulations, you just participated in one big joke.

That's true. The fear that John Kerry could possibly become President of the United States is more than enough incentive to give Bush four more years.

Michael Moore (the American Goebbels) is a big fat lying slob, making money off of dead Americans.

I seriously question the intelligence of anybody who finds his movie to be good, and I wouldn't let anybody into my house who spoke good things of his movie.

Making enemy propaganda movies at a time of war is treason IMO.

He would still be a big fat liar, even if he only weighed 67 lbs.

His piece of crap movie has already been debunked countless times in the PL, and I'm not going to waste my time in trying to convince anybody.

Don't vote for Bush then, since you like Moore............Oh wait you're Canadian, you can't vote anyhow...........

Dick Cheney is much, much more fitting for an American Goebbels, but Moore is an easy scapegoat. If anything, it gives us all something to whine about while we take our eyes off the ball.

But our great leader George Bush protects us from the terrorists.

It is my opinion that if actually stop and think about our country (the USA, that is), think about Iraq, think about terrorists... think about George Bush... You will realize that the USA is really ****ed up.

Show me one person who isn't a hypocrite for speaking out against a system they belong to. Show me one person so dam*ed objective that they can criticize anything without having just a little bit of hypocrisy.

The thing about being political is that it is entirely about self-interest, because if we all had the same voice, democracy wouldn't be a choir - it would be the sound of one hand clapping.

But our great leader provides us with so many benefits.
For example, the economy has barely dropped under him. We also killed all of those damn Iraqi terrorists. "Mission accomplished" is what I say. My brother who is a captain in the army may even survive and be back by 2008. Not to mention the wonderful tax cuts he gave me 'cause I'm rich. Now I can afford the villa in Jamaica I wanted. Oh, and that Bin Laden guy, I think we did a fantastic job of bringing him to justice. I mean, we almost caught him.

Firstly, I'm of the opinion that any thread with "Michael Moore" in the topic should immediately be placed in the Political Lounge. Clearly there is no way to discuss him or anything related to him, without it becoming political.

Secondly, I don't understand why anyone would have to pay Moore such an obscene amount of money to speak in the first place. I mean, he seems to want to do stuff like this anyway right? Why is he making more than most make in an entire year to speak on one night? I guess America just pays a lot to its entertainers.

And PacHead, as long as the first amendment is unchallenged, speaking up is not treasonous, even at a time of war. How exactly is it enemy propaganda? Even if it was, it wouldn't be illegal. But I'm really curious how.

I'm sure if you gave him a chance he would start ranting about Schwarzenegger films and the irresponsibility he has in making them.

Did you really need a compendium for Fahrenheit 9/11? Well it's there released on the same day as the DVD of the movie. Mikey is milking Joe Liberal. Now this isn't any different from say Anne Coulter or Rush Limbaugh but at least they understand Capitalism and don't pretend to wage a war against it. Of course with Moore you never know. He's openingly endorsed Capitalism on several occassions in favor of small business.

Another thing. I don't have a problem with pacifists however Michael Moore is no pacifist.
