i dont understand why people feel the need to flaunt their donations. i am just thinking of the thousands, (millions?) of dollars wasted on designing, manufacturing, and distributing those stupid yellow bands. all of that money could have been used for more research.
its just dumb.

It's not a case of "flaunting their donations." It's a case of spreading the word about the charity, and it's much cheaper to do this than advertise on TV, radio, newspaper, etc., which most people don't pay that much attention to anyway, especially what would be considered as another commercial. These bands are relatively cheap to design and manufacture, and they provide an exceptionally high rate of return. People are also more likely to contribute, when someone they know has one.

Why is there always money for war, but none for education?

Either way they still are donating to the LAF. They still have to pay the dollar to get them. that money goes to the the foundation for research and whatever else it is used for.

I don't see a downside?
1. Everyone braclet that is bought is donating something to charity, so even if they're selling on ebay for high prices they still were originally payed for and some money was given to charity.
2. So what if it's a fashion accessory, if thats what it takes to raise money for research then so be it.
3. I had one 3 days after the race, my girlfriend recieved one for Lance's racing buddy while watching him take the race on the final stretch, it was too big for her so she bought one for herself and gave me (for free) the other one. I admit I like it as a braclet, and it motivates me during my basketball games when I'm running out of energy. I am concerned about cancer research and wearing this braclet stirs up conversation to get others involved as well. Even if they just want to get it as an accessory, at least their contributing, and yes I have donated $5 to LAF to constitute me recieving this braclet and not buying it.
4. Get over yourselves, and either wear one or don't. It's like saying why all those people wore yellow ribbons when the troops went in to war, it's all for a cause.
I also agree that they're spreading like wild fire but I'm taking it as a good thing.
