I was looking at the registration process of this app and it doesn't sit well with me.
Does this app look at the serial number or ethernet id of your computer and generate a serial number based on it? If so can't this company easily know your computers serials?

There are many ways to do this, most likely a hash of your MAC address or machine serial #. A one-way function would ensure a unique ID without being able to be decoded back to the original Ethernet ID or whatever.

FYI there are other apps out there to make DVD backups Even DVD2OneX is a bit less at ~ CAN$77. If you're looking for a pure backup, the majority of those are $free.

Generally, your MAC address is only part of it. The code also takes a snapshot of your machine's hardware configuration. The serial number will continue to work even if you change your hardware configuration (upgrades or replacing certain peripherals), but only up to a point.

In any case, I suggest using another product which uses more ethical means of defending its IP rights.
