Well everyone, if you never see me post again, you'll know why
I've been training since June for the Chicago Marathon, and pretty much everything was going as planned till I got sick last Sunday through this Friday So I've scaled back my dream of making Boston to just running 3:20-3:30. Heck, finishing will be good for me. Race starts in a little under 3 hours, so I got to start getting ready.
See you all later... hopefully.

Best of luck, and you'll finish. I've run two so far, and enjoyed them both.
Just remember, the hardest part about running a marathon is just getting there. Think of all the training you've gone through. This is your time to relax and enjoy it.

Okay, let me preface this: considering I was sick for a week (Sunday through Friday), I was just happy to finish. So here's my interesting results:
8:14.25
8:13:63
7:46.85
7:58.32
7:30.82
7:55.34
7:26.26
7:20:01
7:18.76
7:31.63
7:42.69
7:53.12
7:54.69
8:35.43
7:57.34
8:21.68
9:03.74
10:45.00
9:51.45
10:24.72
13:00.61
12:11.68
15:51.24
15:23.35
14:53.70
13:25.77
Avg: 9:38.15
Total: 4:10.26
So, yes, I'm an hour over my ultimate goal pace. And you would think (rightly so), that I would be disappointed. But getting down to 139 on friday indicated to me that I was getting low in the weight department, and probably stored energy as well. And by the times, you can tell I hit the mythical wall at 15 miles - I had it previously before at mile 18.5, so I was definitely weak. From then on out, I was just trying to survive... and I barely did. It was rough finishing.
Next time I run (next year), I'm going to try to avoid getting sick and do a couple more long runs before and see if that helps.
Lots of fun, interesting things to post which I might later when I'm not so sore.

Congratulations on your first Marathon. Just as long ad you did your best, that is all you can expect. Hope that you will be able to run Boston. My wife volunteers as a nurse at the finish.

Not this year I need to get down to 3:10 before I can do that. It's something I want to do, but first I need to crack 4 hours

Well done Ghoser, sounds like it was a gutsy run. Being ill for a whole week would have drained a lot of stored energy and lost some fintess too, so congrats on being strong enough to finish it.

Congratulations! You must have a real feeling of accomplishment to have completed it, especially when you're getting over an illness.

Very good! My next goal will be at least 3:20 (I did that for half the marathon already - assuming I don't hit the wall, I have more of that in me). Then I want to break 3:10. Then keep chipping down to sub 3:00. I'll be very happy if I can finish that fast.
