My first driving lesson was in a Citroen 2 CV when I was like 14 years old. I used to get scary when cornering, so my father gave me the next lesson on a Mini Cooper (the original 1275 cc). I really had fun although I wasn't even close to what this guy does

Mini demo

Enjoy it!

Really cool! I wish they sold the original minis; the new ones are jumbos by comparison.

There was a contest once to topple a 2CV simply by driving skill.

It proved impossible - until some bloke managed, full-speed in reverse.

The new ones are pretty much exactly VW-Golf-sized

Yeah. Remember I was only 14 and somehow when I was as the wheel I would get more nervous than when someone gave me a ride. However, I learnt to appreciate the 2 CV later and I do agree, it was a car impossible to topple. The combination of very thin tires, very soft suspension, front wheel drive, etc, were the keys.

It was funny when Mercedes after all that testing and investment in the A-Class couldn't stand what a 2 CV could (50+ years earlier design).

Actually the Mini is 3,63m long and the Golf (newest one) 4,20m.

have to admit I haven't seen them directly in comparison by *length*. Standing next to each other in the parking lot, they seemed pretty much exactly the same size. (just looked it up: 9 cm less wide, 8 cm less tall than the Golf V - can't find Golf 4 measurements, but I believe it's shorter than the Golf V)

Seeing a *real* mini next to that was pretty funny. (There was an abundance of all three where I used to worked.)

It's true that they look like they are the same size, and yeah the old mini is really small compared to the new one. But also cooler. The Golf IV is as big in length as the V, but the V has a longer wheelbase (which results in more interior space) IIRC.
