I do! I can't get enough of it. I know it died, but it's still alive to me.

I like!

But not an album of just that.. I like when it's incorporated in some songs on an album....

I liked the "Pave The World" album by the Blue Meanies, but I'm not a ska-lover in general.

You know reggae? Emphasis on the two and four (m - TCHAK - m - TCHAK-ka).

Ska: Double-time reggae (emphasis on the offbeats). Preferably with horn section. E.g. Madness. Very very early Bob Marley (that's actually more Rocksteady, but they're similar).

The British ska scene was the seminal ground for the birth of punk music, and there's still a mix of SHARP skins and punks at ska concerts, as well.

I don't actually listen to ska much, but I do play in a ska band (cuz it's lots of fun live, and the band gets around).

Yes, the Brits loved Ska and Reggae to death in the seventies. Johnny Rotten was a huge fan, for example. And naturally all those English Ska Revival bands started popping up - Specials, Beat etc...

Now there's loads of bands who call themselves ska, some quite good. But in the sixties in Jamaica there was an awful lot of this music being pumped out - before the whole Reggae - Rastafarian explosian. Rocksteady was basically slowing the tempo down.

Ska bands these days are usually fun live, true, often because they have fun stuff like trumpets and are usually infectiously upbeat.

To quote a t-shirt I've seen. 'Ska sucks.'

No comment on my part.

I didn't even like it 10 years ago when it was popular.

10 years ago? Guess you missed the Two Tone era of 1978-1985

Punk. At least their 80s albums would, I gave up with them after "Quickness" sucked so bad.

I liked Bad Brains! Not ska though. Now I have that song Re-ignition in my head. I'll have to see if I can download it or I'll go mad!

Oh and Desmond Dekker, the Skatalites and those Don Drummond, Jackie Mittoo type cats were pure 60's. Hey throw in Toots and the Maytals while you're at it.

And the only thing Mighty in my collection is the Mighty Diamonds. Those Bosstones are just too cute for my ears.

I was into ELO and Styx at that time.

Never mind I'll remember you this
I'll remember you this way"

For the record, Reggae (which also rocks) is slowed down ska, not the other way around. Here's an up and coming ska band for those who want a sample.

~BS

ps. I'm vindicated that someone with a bush cheney sig doesn't like it. Say what you will about republicans but musical taste has never been one of their strong suits.

I got into them later on. At the time I was borrowing my brother's Alan Parsons Project and Queen records.
