OK... I'm 99% sure I'm taking a new job in Wilmington, DE (closer to Newark, DE, actually), and I'm looking to move to the southwest suburbs of Philadelphia.
Anyone know anything about Landenburg or Media, PA? Nice areas? Good schools (I have three school-aged children)?
Advice on the suburbs between Wilmington and Philly would be most helpful. I'd prefer to be only around 1/2 hr from Wilmington - but live in the nice area of PA.
Anyone?

I go to school in West Philadelphia. I have some friends from Upper Marion and "the Main Line," which I hear good things about.

amazing. i go to school in philly and work part-time in newark. i've been through landenberg twice (where some co-workers of mine live) and it seems to be a quiet rural area with very nice housing developments being built around existing farmlands. not sure about the school system, but i'm sure you can find that out on your own. landenberg would be approximately 9 miles or so north of the pennsylvania-delaware border and not much further from newark proper where u. delaware's campus is located.
not a bad area at all, though you'll have to get through newark to get on i-95 or drive several miles further north to get on route 1.
edit: west chester, pa is 16.5 miles north of wilmington and is directly reachable via us 202. all i can say is that stretch of road will be able to fulfill all of your shopping needs. i have some friends living there and they seem to like it, so it's worth a look. again, there are nice developents in the area that you might be interested in.

Thanks very much!
Know anything about Chadsford? I hear its kind of rural... but nice. I prefer well-developed suburbs myself, like the Newark area.
West Chester sounds interesting I think.

yeah, i think i remember driving through chadds ford while coming back from landenberg on route 1. can't say that i know much about the area though i'm sure it's nice (as is most of southeastern pa).
take a weekend or so to drive around the area and see for yourself. landenberg is nice, but if you've got kids i think it's a bit too rural. west chester and chadds ford would be a bit more convenient imho.
good luck to you!

Yep. I even drove downtown just to see the MBNA building and see what all my credit card bills buys them. Apparently, it bought them a very nice office building - looked like it had brass fixtures thoughout the lobby....

I'm going back in the first week of November to take another look around and do some house shopping. I saw a nice one in Newark (DE) last time I was there - nice enough to buy, but someone who lives in Wilmington (and who sent their kids to private schools) told me the public schools weren't very good in Newark. But doing some investigating suggests that they actually are pretty good... so I don't know what to believe.
But... the best part...! New Apple Store in the Christiana Mall in Wilmington Just opened - like Apple knew I was going to be moving there It's about 1/2 mile from my new job. Hurray. Otherwise, it'd be about an hour to the King of Prussia store in Philly.
