Just took delivery of my new (it's used, but it's new to me) Krell FPB 700cx amp. It showed up, delivered by DHL, and I had to help the driver get the beast out of the truck, and he in turn helped me get it into the basement. That's right, 180lbs of sweet stereo love. I swore my next upgrade would be monoblocks (either Krell or Levinson), but I couldn't pass up on this deal. It'll be taking the place of my Sunfire 300/2, which was a good amp, but really wasn't doing my Wilsons justice.

Time to go hook it up and listen.

I'll give you $200 for the Sunfire amp!! (damn it sucks to be broke )

The closest thing that I have to the sunfire is the 250WPC Sunfire amp that powers my NHT Sub One. I love high-end audio, I just can't afford it anymore...

Congratulations. It must be nice having a house where the amp can be played to its full potential.

Yeah, yeah... but how does it do for low end extension and mid-bass clarity?

Well, I've got it hooked up and on, and am running it through Peter Gabriel's Passion SACD right now (with my Powerbook in my lap). So far, it sounds pretty amazing. I know what the high-end audio pundits say, but shockingly, I'm able to turn the volume much higher, and listen at noticeably louder levels, than I could with the Sunfire without discomfort. Seems much cleaner. (Don't worry, I'm careful with regards to my hearing.)

Well, back to listening.

Yep. My HT/audio room has it's own seperate breaker box, independent from the rest of the house. It can handle quite a bit more than this amp can put out.

Sorry, it's already sold to my brother-in-law. It'll be used as his start into high-end audio... damned illness that it is.

Hmm, and here I was thinking you were writing about the Hk Soundsticks I got tonight for about $60.

I'll try to take some pics, but last time they came out way too dark. I have very little lighting down there, no windows and only a pair of lamps. Hell, I've got to use a flashlight whenever I mess with the cabling.

As for specs:

Wilson Audio MAXX monitors, bought used (those were fun getting down here )
Transparent Reference XL speaker cable, came with the MAXXs
Wilson WATCH center channel monitor and surrounds, bought used
Krell FPB 700cx stereo amp, bought used
Sunfire Cinema Grand 200/5, for center and surrounds (to be replaced by a Krell whenever a sweet deal comes along), bought used
Integra Research RDC-7 pre/pro, store demo
Onkyo DV-SP800 DVD/SACD/DVD-A/CD (mainly for DVDs and SACDs)
Rega Jupiter 2000 CD transport (sweet player!)
Nottingham Horizon turntable, w/ Rega 250 arm
CatCables Silvercats interconnects (aka. "cables" )
Epson Livingstation LS57 TV
Motorola DCT6208 HD/DVR receiver

Not "ultra high-end", but it's coming together... slowly, but surely. I simply won't pay retail for new gear. Usually I'll just wait and get a steal on something used. Lots of trading has gone into this setup (about 10 years worth).

Oh no... I'd never pay retail, or buy new, if I can help it. Got it for much, much less.

I'll damned if I'll spend $70K (used) for a pair of `em, no matter how well built they are. Not to mention that they weight almost 700lbs.... EACH.
