Nerd alert: In Star Trek, the starships dispense plasma while using impulse engines. Nifty Sci-Fi tech becoming reality.

double nerd alert:

the plasma exaust generated by starships in Star Trek is a byproduct of deuterium based fusion reactors. Deuterium is simply "heavy hydrogen". "Anti heavy hydrogen" is currently used in anti-matter testing facilities. Neat eh?
