Following on from the news that Halo 2 code had been leaked onto the Internet, comes widespread talk of the same fate befalling Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for PlayStation 2.

File sharing sites have the game listed for download, with one version weighing in at a whopping, not to mention credible, 3.95GB currently seeing a lot of activity. If this proves to be the game, it marks a worrying turn of events for Rockstar and the industry in general.
This better be a joke.

This is a great day for the pirating community. Should also have a significant impact on sales.

I'd personally rather pay the $50 than wait for a 4GB download on Acquisition.

F**king thieves... why don't they get a job and buy the game like any honest person would?

The name of the game is Grand Theft Auto. It's not like stealing is cool, though. It's not like a game about stealing helps reinforce the act of stealing as cool, or anything, especially to tweens and teenagers, because they are really good at making mature decisions based on important life experiences. Bad experiences like hiding liquor and picking on other kids are very rare; most teens volunteer at old-folks homes and clean up after themselves. They're aslo really good at rationalizing that there is no connection between stealing a car in a video game without consequences and stealing on the net without consequences. In fact, some of them even go on to university and get jobs and vote. Humans are such wise, wise animals.

I believe the issue is that it was leaked, not that people steal it.

Because most of them are probably 13-year-olds with no jobs. Mommy & daddy buy their stuff, and when they can't, they steal it.

Hey Peter,

There was talk of a leak over the weekend, but it turned out to be nothing. this though sounds like it's possible, but probably someone down the chain has friggin stuck it on the net.

We wrapped up the game a couple of weeks ago, so I've got a month of work to kick back, but it's pretty crappy if this has been put out before the launch. It happens I guess, but when you think about the sheer time and effort put into a game like this; the hours and weekends plus the passion for it; it kinda leaves a sour feeling in the old gut when this happens.

I spoke to one of the guys at Bungie who make Halo , and he was pretty p*ssed off with what happened to them.

Not long till GTA:SA is out anyhoo, and I hope people love playing it as much as we did making it.
Rockstar Games - better than reality.

Really hyped about this game, probably my 2nd most anticipated game of the year (well, HL2, c'mon... )
Care to kill/confirm the 'co-op' rumour?

I guess I have to wait until the PC versions leak through their respective sives, or they release them for PC (I'm not buying three consoles to play the games I want). Hopefully this will speed up the releases, rather than do what happened to HL2.
