The main difference between the first image and the second is the first is a joke. The second isn't.

The first isn't quite a joke actually. It's the military demo'ing their hardware to the kids.

Apparently it is a Military Base Open House. A proud father is showing his daughter what he does at work. I imagine that she is very proud of her father.

The already-wounded Vietcong dude that Kerry shot in the back was reportedly carrying a bazooka thingy. Though nobody saw it. But Kerry swears it wasn't a civilian that he shot in the back. Even though he later admitted (and bragged about) participating in similar war crimes.

The unbridled hate that americans have during the election season never ceases to amuse me.

Nader is worse than Kerry and Bush combined.

He's the personification of unbridled idiocy.

On the flip side of that... parents get tired of dealing with their kids and tell them to go watch a movie or play their game boy, PS2, or one of their million other toys they purchased for their perfect little child.

See - an awful lot of European (German, specifically) kids were brought up with an abhorrence of all things military, in the conviction that machines that kill are not suitable material for kids to play with (though my parents apparently decided that Star Wars action toys are sufficiently removed from reality to qualify...).

I was taught that a military is a necessity, not something to be proud of.

We tried that pride thing for a while, and it didn't really work out too well.

Your country is discovering that, too, I hope.

I don't see this as a popularity contest.

We aren't in High School.

American isn't going to buy that cool coat the world is wearing and thinks is cool just to fit in. American doesn't like that coat.

And while your boys are dying in the sandbox, you might want to look up "hubris" in a dictionary, and "humility" in the Bible.

P AT H E T I C.

Learn some tact Harlot.

I know why that happened. It had nothing to do with Pride.

Nice try though. Well not really. It was actually pathetic.

That's not funny. You are subverting a good intention by advancing stylistic doubts. Why? The good intention is what counts.
