Hi,
I was wondering if anyone with a standard free MSN Hotmail had seen their storage limit increase from the regular 2 MB to 250 MB? I remember earlier this year after Google premiered its 1GB Gmail service, Yahoo, MSN and the rest of them said they would soon increase their free storage quotas. Yahoo launched its updated e-mail service with 100 MB months ago. What happened to Hotmail? I remember reading somewhere that MSN would be giving everyone 250 MB by the end of summer, which has long past. It's almost the end of the year and my account still has its 2 MB limit. Does anyone with a free Hotmail account have the new 250 MB limit? Any news when MSN will be upgrading the service? And please, no "Ditch Hotmail, use .Mac" comparisons...Start your own thread of that.

i havent yet and i'm waiting too. not that i need it (i use my dsl email) but it'd be nice not having to log on deleting junk before that fantastic 2mb mailbox fills up

Mine increased about a week ago. Maybe they're upgrading them depending on how long you've had the account? I've had mine since 97/98 - well before Microsoft got their hands on it anyway...

I don't use it much anyway - I prefer gmail

Lucky you!

Can you post a screenshot of the interface of Hotmail on your updated account? Is the interface exactly the same as our non-updated accounts? Any new features?

I think they're slowly upgrading the accounts -- depending on how old they are

They've been banging on about improved search and a calendar - although, I thought I had a calendar before they upgraded... Anyway, the only change I've noticed is:

I have yet to have my account upgraded and I've had it since 2000. I only personaly know one other person who has received the update. I wish they'd hurry up, I'm tired of getting noticed that I'm almost out of space, especially when I wouldn't if they'd just upgrade the account like they said they would be!

Mine is older than M$'s takeover as well, but hasn't been upgraded yet.

Is there a way to tell since when one is a member ?

I have two hotmail accounts, one started in '98 or so and one started in 2000 or so. The '98 account got upgraded to 250MB w/in the last three weeks; the 2000 one hasn't yet, so this is consistent with "they're upgrading based on how old the account is" theories.

Still at 2MB here.

I remember having a 5, 6 and even 10MB hotmail account. the size just kept getting smaller and the amount days I would have to check it got shorter and spam got worse.

Yes I'm on 250Mb now, has been for a few weeks, still trying to get above that 1% useage, but at least I don't have to worry about overfilling the account now .

Look after my manor, or I will bum you, literally, to death.

Yahoo is at 1000 MB to compete with gmail. Their paid service is 2GB now.

Mine's at 250. For an account that's been reactivated at least 10 times I wasn't expecting much.

I just checked my Yahoo email and it's at 100 MB.

I could have swore that when I reactivated my account a few days ago it said 1000 MB, but now I look and it says 100 MB which is what everyone else is saying. Sorry for misleading.

I can confirm that Mr. Blur isn't blatantly lying boldfaced like it typically does concerning his post about Netscape Webmail.

Does anyone know of any accouncement from AOL/Netscape or others about the new capacity from Netscape Webmail? I thought Netscape.com was left for dead....Interesting they're reviving it.

Thank god.

I have had my Netscape account for about 4 years now and just this morning I was thinking about how much I dreaded the fast approaching time where I would have to leave it behind because of capacity constraints. Tried to log into it this afternoon from work and was unable to. Well, now I know why.

.Mac just upped theirs to 250MB combined b/tw mail and iDisk. You can allocate it any way you want.
