It's spotted green puffer fish to top it all! I can see how easy it was to make humans out of fish DNA though. God it seems cheated!

Doesn't explain why I can't swim though.

From a biology major at Harvard University (me):

Same number of genes in no ways means genetically identical. Genes mix and change themselves in an almost infinite way.

By the way, ever wondered why mice are used for experimentation in the lab? With special breeding (these mice would NEVER be found in basements or alley ways) they are almost 97% genetically identical to humans.

PC users do that, it makes reading hardware forums exceptionally painful.

On the DNA, ISTR tree DNA was 60 or 70% identical to human's DNA. Since the fish are closer presumably, there would be a higher percentage. I also seem to remember that most species of monkeys had around 98% identical DNA to human's. It's quite interesting how much a mutation can change an organism.

This insanity brought to you by:
The French CBC, driving antenna users mad since 1937.

You can eat whatever you want for breakfast, but your sig is larger than the guidelines allow. Plus, no one wants to see the specs of your machines. Please get a decent sig.

Back on the subject at hand, the article stated that it had close to the same number of genes as a human, but I couldn't find where it said the genes were the same.
Why is there always money for war, but none for education?

The problem with advertising the size is someone will tell you he has a bigger one.

Is it pick on the Harvard guy day? I missed the memo.

Anyone interested in a really cool discussion regarding genetics should read "Writings on an Ethical Life" by Peter Singer. The argument goes like this: There are birds that are considered the same species because they are virtually the same except for a variance in color. There are people whose genetic makeup is widely out of sync with the typical human's, and yet they're afforded all the rights of a human.

The link between chimps and mankind is even closer in some cases, genetically speaking, and yet zoologists are unable to classify them of the same species mainly for political reasons. It would revolutionize ethical debate.

As for fish...I like salmon.
Do you want forgiveness or respect?
