"A Washington state school district has banned Halloween parties during the school day because it says children dressed up as goblins and witches take time away from learning, officials said Thursday."
"Other U.S. schools have banned Halloween festivities because some families don't celebrate it for religious reasons and other cannot afford costumes."
http://www.cnn.com/2004/EDUCATION/10...eut/index.html
So is the west allowed to have a culture of its own or do they have to ignore all that because someone immigrated or believes in another god?

They banned it during school hours. As for the wiccan thing how would you like it if pictures of republicans portrayed small penises or something?

The majority does not celebrate halloween for any religious reason. It's just supposed to be fun. Kids need a day of fun instead of school. Are they banning Valentine's Day parties too?

Of course we do! Didn't you know that the teachers come around and patrol the streets to make sure that none of their students are participating in the Halloween festivities?

Yes, but are they banning Valentine's Day and Christmas parties during school hours? The primary argument is that children dressed up as goblins and witches take time away from learning. Would not passing around little pink hearts and celebrating the birth of the Christian god also take time away from learning?

Cannot afford costumes? Has anyone looked at the price of costumes these days? I just bought an amazing costume for my 3yr old from Walmart for $15 CANADIAN. That's practically FREE in American dollars! And only 10 days before Halloween.

Not the same. Costumes and the such tend to distract more. And last the whole day.

Yet another religious post started by a non-religious person.
Why do you guys do it?
If you are so against religion why do you want to talk about religious things?
Oh yeah, I know, you're just anti-Christian.

As poor as our education is, anytime taken away from learnin ain't helpin the lil under achievers. Also theres a blitzkrieg of political correctness. This reminds me of atheists makin a big "ta-do" over the 10 commandments infront of government buildins.
"Oh God!! (not that I believe in a God), there are these ugly tablets with commandments from a judeo-christian "God." "I pay my taxes and the site of this thing offends me...TAKE IT DOWN"
And now the reverse is being done...its censorship 101

Very true. Valentines Day is just handing stuff out (takes bout 10-15mins tops), and there is no class on Christmas.
Halloween is the "party holiday", usually with games and stuff. Add in the costumes and it can become a pretty hecktick/chaotic day.

Nope, didn't change a thing. I still think it's stupid.
Kilbey, as I tried to point out in my post, Halloween is not religious, at least for the purposes the masses celebrate it as. Why are you blabbing on about non-religious people posting religious threads when this isn't an instance of that?

yes, because one single f*ckin day makes that much of a difference.
...in other news, school-kids still bored to death by a completely inefficient school system which was devised roughly 150 years ago.

Yes but the reason he posted it was because he thought it was.

So Kilbey's post was spot on.

Yes, the article is about PC. I don't think the SWF really got what the article was about. But instead projected his own meaning. It had nothing to do with belief in God.

We really don't know what he thinks because he is usually purposely nondescript when he posts threads like this. Usually posting the thread starter, and not saying another word throughout the thread.
So one, by his very small part in this thread has to guess as to what he is complaining about.

im not going to get into a conversation about what SWG does or does not think.
im just saying that other than the word "god" there was nothing really religious about this.
that and kilbey is hyper-sensitive to this crap.

d4th.. if the SWF wouldn't post so many dang anti-religious posts, Kilbey wouldn't have assumed he did it in this thread.
As a matter of fact, I think the SWF purposely posts this way so he doesn't have to back up his "Stance"
He isn't a very good debater. Just posts and runs . Some people call this "trolling"
Anyhow back on topic.
There is nothing wrong with banning Halloween from schools if it was disrupting the education process. Which is why they are in school in the first place .
It's not like they can't go trick or treating.
Halloween isn't that important.

bear with me on this one here kilb.-
SWG said-
So is the west allowed to have a culture of its own or do they have to ignore all that because someone immigrated or believes in another god?
here, let me sum up what he said as i interpret it-
why cant the west (america in particular) make its own identity instead of always walking this tightrope of political correctness. we are always accommodating special interests and its getting ridiculous.
see? no use of the word "god" but same concept. now go find a real fight.

Alright Dan.
That would have been great if he had used those words and not implied that people who believe in God were the ones responsible.
See? He used "god". Not "political correctness" or "special interests". Must be great knowing how to read minds. Especially that of a gay Canadian.

I wouldn't have thought otherwise had he not had a habit of making anti-religious posts on a regular basis. He usually posts the first post. Then doesn't post again. Or if he does it's sparingly.
And it was about due for another.
It's like cash with car threads, Demon with "picture" threads, or me with lame threads everyone makes fun of.
It's a given.

isnt it safe to assume that your religion would be the main one that forces other religions to believe in other gods? youre the majority here. there is no issue.
noted. dont know if you're necessarily the one i'll be drawing pointers from though.
and as far as you two jumping on swg for his posts in the past- that's just silly™, take the thread at face value and roll with it. wait for him to say something (for real) and then jump on it. or be the bigger man and leave it alone, you're obviously not going to covert him.

No, he wasn't blaming the religious. He was actually slamming the fact that people are trying to remove everything that is even remotely religious.
So is the west allowed to have a culture of its own or do they have to ignore all that because someone immigrated or believes in another god?
My take:
"So is the west allowed to have a culture of its own or do they have to be incredibly boring so they don't step over the religion boundary."
