Just curious.
What genre of music do you listen to the most? I know someone has probably asked this before, but music changes, peoples opinions change, so this poll changes. If you listen to 2 or more then check all that apply.

Im voting for Classic Rock.

I voted Alternative, because I don't listen to one genre the most.

I listen to Bad Brains.. to the Cardigans.. etc.

I don't know. Does metal fall into the "classic rock" category with Led Zeppelin and stuff? Or does it go under "Other?"

Zepp would be classic rock. It's more Hard Rock than metal.

I would say Sabbath would be more Metal than Zepp..

But hey, if Sabbath was out in the early 90s it would have been called grunge.

I still haven't figured out what Jane's Addiction is.

They used to play them on Head Bangers Ball, AND the Cutting Edge.

80s to about 95. From high school to a few years after college. Now I'm old and I don't like the new stuff either because I am not "the right age" or today's stuff just sucks.

I do think that during the teen years kids will like almost anything. Music or songs being "good" has nothing to do with anything. Good songs get played for years and years and are liked by many generations.

As a comedian once said, do you really think when today's teens are 80 years old, they will pull out their old rap cds? Wierd thought!

For example, I absolutely love Boston's first album (1976), and I didn't own it until 1992. I still love it. I think many people of many ages will agree that it is "good".

What was the question?

Wow, two major things to work on.

Punk is very specific:angry, loud and very, very anti-conformist. Chances are if you think you're punk, you're just a wanker. Alternative is the biggest oxymoron in music today. It's usually rock, or some kinda hybrid.

Reggae is more than just Bob Marley. Much, much more. Bob was great but he's not my favorite reggae artist.

And genres are for record company execs, not true music fans!!!

OK, thanks for clearing up that alternative/pumk issue. As for genres, I can be happy listening to just about anything but country...

okay, i voted alternative. but it's a really broad spectrum. spanning from late 60s ska and hippie music...over desert rock to completely electronic "driven stuff" and music which is in the current top 10.

What does "alternative" even mean these days? Alternative to what? Even plenty of so-called "alternative" music is just mainstream crap.

People say the punk died as soon as it got to that stage. The early punks were wearing ANYTHING - mohair sweaters were big, for example.

When I was growing up in my teens (Mid 80s to early 90s) Alternative music was music that couldn't be classified with the crap classifications they had at the time.

LIke I pointed out above, Jane's Addiction. They did Metal, Folk, Funk, Punk, plus they made up some of their own silliness.

You couldn't really classify them. So they were called "Alternative" meaning a alternative to the norm.

It's Classical, which is what I'm listening to at the moment.

I like classic rock the best. Some modern rock is OK.

Unless it's country or opera I'll listen to it. I love music but I can't stand country.

I'll listen to just about anything as long as it's GOOD.

I hate most RAP, but like some Snoop stuff. I hate country, but like some old country, and bluegrass players are impressive. I hate pop, but I like The Cardigans..

Fixed...Classic Rock should be 60's and 70's, and 80's should be in some other thing.

Anyways I voted for classic rock, nothing beats that...

Classic rock.
And yes, 70's and 80's should be separated. Iron Maiden and Jethro Tull aren't exactly... the same.

But then again, who doesn't listen to good music (from their own perspective) ?

Same here. Mostly because I was growing up during that time, and hearing that stuff brings back memories of those days.

These days I listen to mostly Greek music, of all types, INCLUDING the "stupid" stuff that is the equivalent of the 98 O-backsync boys and Brittina Spearguilera that preteens devour like it's going out of style. That kind of stuff just annoys the hell out of me, except when it's in Greek... go figure.

But, I do enjoy all kinds of traditional Greek music, as well. The kind of stuff that transcends ALL generations.

I kid. Alternative in the similar vein as Nick Cave. He is a troubadour with few peers. An acquired taste, no doubt, with successive albums requiring more and more effort.

Anyhow, I will echo the "anything that's good" sentiment, but my potato and gravy are rock (usually indie, pop, and punk) and jazz.
I, ASIMO.
