Wow, they had just raised them not too long ago. I guess competition caught up. I used it on a trial basis once. Good service.

proof that the economy is improving

I'm surprised they lowered em. Wonder if there is some kinda price war goin on, though I don't know any other service that directly competes with Nexflix...but than again I don't get out much

Maybe now I can afford to give em a try.

...completely against political racism!

Yea, they lowered the monthly fee, mostly due to pricing pressure from blockbuster. I'm actually doing an accounting analysis on their financial statements right now.

If anyone read my math question here I was actually comparing Netflix's stock price from one year ago to today's price. ($52.45 to $9.80... ouch!) Now there are rumors that Amazon may either buy them, or launch a competing service.

So, things are looking good for us consumers, but bad for Netfilx.

Yeah, I'm happy about the lower price, but I heard they are taking zero profit for the next year to stay afloat. I'm not happy that they are in a desparate situation. I like my Netflix. Been a member since 2000.

Yeah, I feel the same way. Their main problem is that they have a ton of customers with 1-day movie turn-arounds that simply get the movies, copy them to their computer, and send them back all in the same day. The monthly fees these people pay barely cover the postage.

I know you can copy DVD's, but when you have a service that you can use to check them out again at anytime, why bother?

great news indeed. i was delighted when i saw the e-mail this morning saying that the service was now 17.99. for a time, i considered stepping down to the 2 disc plan for 14.99 because with school and work, i'm not able to watch as many movies as i used to. but i can breath a little easier now.

not sure about the other services, but i'd bet that their selections aren't as great with respect to having a wide selection of foreign films and indies in stock.

netflix is definitely cool!

I signed up for their 2 weeks for free on Sat, and I received an email tonight stating my dvds are sent and I will recieve them on Wed. WTF ? Why not Tuesday ? I won't be signing up for good if it takes a couple of days for a DVD to arrive.

Where is the warehouse ? Are my DVDs arriving from Uzbekistan ?

They always over estimate. They always say mine will be here on Thurs. and they show up on Wednesday...

It all depends upon your local mail service. If they suck... good luck...

yeah, the delay shouldn't be too bad as they have regional distribution hubs. since i live in philly, all netflix discs are sent to a 'southeastern pa' mailing address, so the turnaround times are quite decent.

i'm sure they probably have a handful of hubs to cover all the regions of the country.

Did that $4 extra a month make or break it for you?

I've been very happy with their service. On occasion I'll back one up if I really enjoyed to movie to watch it again at a later time...

Cool... it's a cool company. I have found that the people that tend to hate it are:

1) People that demand that they get the exact movie they want, when they want it.
2) People that don't have a #3 #4 #5 movie that they would be happy with.
3) People that can't accept that the move movies you rent the lower you are prioritized.

When I went on my binge... I rented 21 movies in a month. I would say a good 1/2 of my 100 DVD queue was short wait to long wait. It didn't bother me.

Again... I'm very happy with the service.

I only wish HandBrake would do subtitles...

How does it compare to Blockbuster's service? Anyone have experience with both?

Blockbuster has a catch to their "No Late Fee" gimic. If you don't return the rental in 2 weeks (or something) they charge the video to your credit card... so basically you pay top dollar for a previously viewed rental.

It's not bad for impulse people that don't want to wait a week or so for the new video and are quick to return, but sometimes I go a few weeks with my Netflix... I don't like the idea of being pressured.
