The one with the compututer half ball under the screen. Shifting the screen around was a lot easier. I was slightly disgusted playing with the "new new" iMac the other day. The design of the case is just.. not right says I.

Whatever you say. The old "new" iMac wasn't selling for sh*t and cost a lot more to make.
I liked old "new" better too but the new "new" iMac makes a lot more sense.

True it cost a lot, but the design wasn't what failed it -- the fact apple doomed the @#$&*(^ out of it by never updating it and charging outrageous prices for the specs, was what killed it.

I get the feeling that 20" iMac G4 prices will stay high on eBay for quite some time to come. I wouldn't mind picking one of those up myself sometime.

Yep, that thing had a beautiful design.
Oh well. The new design does have one thing going for it - it is easier to get at the internals to upgrade/replace things.

I don't particularly like the design of either of them. The old one was too big and the moving screen was annoying. The new ones aren't very original and I fear the speakers are crap.
Plus the stupid power button is on the back. Having it on the front made so much sense I have no idea why the moved it back.

i've seen the FP imac in action
it's THE MOST FUNCTIONAL DESKTOP COMPUTER EVER MADE*
my boss had to deal with a lot of people in a lot of situations is a small/awkward deskspace. it's like Apple custom built that screen just for him to be more productive.
having said that, it's not perfect for everyone such as pro users. he was more of a manager type so having niche characteristics did not matter to him such as big displays and expandability.
*not including pro users

Which one?
The G4 and G5 iMacs both have flat panels.

I believe the reference was for the G4 imac.

Ironically, about the only thing that changed with the G5 imac was the processor. Otherwise it's still a slug piece of **** and will show it's age in 6 months.

I never cared for the sunflower design. It was radical yes, but always looked better in photos. I was always disappointed when seeing one in real life. The 15" looked especially awkward.

Yep, count me in as one who thinks the lack of a higher end GPU sucks. However, it's got a much better overall architecture, and the slot load optical drive and integrated speaker is a big bonus.

are you an idiot?
in my design department for a multi million corporation, only 2 of 10 people have a mac as fast as the new FP G5 imacs
most of them have been using g4 533 DPs professionally for more than 2 years and have no real plans in place to upgrade.
i'm pretty sure the new G5 imacs won't show it's age in 6 months.
so, you're like 15 now right Joe?

I'm inclined to agree, though I have another reason: there was no way they could possibly have put a G5 in the old design's case. The heat issues would be too problematic.
Industrial design is a Good Thing, but when it gets in the way of technological progress, you have to stop and rethink your priorities.

That way you're more likely to put the computer to sleep rather than starting it up and shutting it down each and every time you use. Plus, it keep the front nice and clutter free, just the glowing sleep light which is in the exact spot in front as the power button in back.
I still prefer my PB17 but after a few days testing out a 20-inch model for a review, I was pretty impressed with it. The sound was a little echo-y but it still works better, for me, than the lampshade.
